Pa Cham Dao - The Butterfly Knives of Wing Chun
The Pa Cham Dao is part of the Wing Chun system. The form with the butterfly knives can only be learned in a course after completing the 11th exam. It forms the conclusion of the Wing Chun and is characterized by a high degree of difficulty.
The Pa Cham Dao, also called wolf knives, were often worn by women in their boots in the past to always have a weapon against animal and human attackers at hand even during sleep.
It is clear that nowadays in a dangerous situation, you usually do not have two butterfly knives with you. So why does it make sense to master the Pa Cham Dao anyway?
The shape is characterized by various fine and yet powerful movements, which are initiated from the wrists. These make the joints on the one hand more flexible and on the other hand stronger and provide a deeper understanding of the corresponding Wing Chun techniques. In addition, the shape conveys an excellent running school and a sense of distance.
Striking power from a short distance is an important element of the 3rd form of Wing Chun. The goal is to perform blows quickly, without them being seen. The main technique of the 3rd form, the Bju Tse, also benefits from the Pa-Cham-Dao form. In the twisting and tilting movements from the wrist, the force is practiced and the movement in space is refined. The SKEMA student continues to gain momentum.
The group of the course is quite visible. It consists exclusively of headmasters and instructors of the SKEMA Martial Arts Academy. Accordingly, the level is high. The martial artists practice cuts, stitches, and hand techniques with the Pa Cham Dao, which are adapted to the knives as well as kicks. With the latter, the difficulty is to hold the knives so that you do not get hurt yourself. Techniques are also practiced against the Long Pole, the Long Pole of the Wing chun. This can also be learned in a course.
On the last day of the course, everyone in the circle had to prove themselves. Armed with the Pa Cham Dao, the fighters were attacked from all sides with short and long weapons. They skillfully used their learned strength from the wrists, performed cuts and stitches, and parried any attacks with the Wing-Chun-typical principle of simultaneity.
We sincerely congratulate everyone on the successful completion of the Pa-Cham-Dao course.
