On September 21, 1972, Proclamation No. 1081 was signed by then-President Ferdinand Marcos, placing the Philippines under Martial Law. Two days later, the proclamation was publicly announced.

Even after 54 years, we continue to remember. Why? Because to forget is to risk disregarding the lives that were imprisoned, persecuted, and lost during one of the darkest periods in our nationโ€™s history.

Although many of us were not yet alive when these events took place, the lives that were taken continue to live on through us. Their dreams, principles, voices, and vision for a better Philippines remain reflected in the values we uphold and the society we strive to build.

To remember is to honor them. To remember is to learn. And to remember is to ensure that history is never erased.
