In the rush of our everyday life, we overlooked the need to rest and slow down. We forgot the essence and importance of taking a breath and appreciating the milestones that we achieved in our roller-coaster journey.

Kaya gaya ng habul-habulan hindi ibig sabihin na huminto, susuko na. Sometimes taking a pause means we are finding the strength to move forward and learn from the past. Dahil ang mga alaala ang magsisilbing aral at gabay natin sa ating paglalakbay sa kasalukuyan.

𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐑𝐘 | 𝐀 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐄𝐑 𝐂𝐀𝐍 𝐁𝐄 𝐖𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐆, 𝐓𝐎𝐎.

We have a strange relationship with certainty.

We admire the person who always seems to know what to say. The leader who speaks without hesitation. The one who has an answer ready before the question has even finished.

But what happens when the answer is wrong?

In an age where information can cross thousands of screens before we even have time to ask where it came from, 𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙮 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙙𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙩𝙝.

A leader can misread a headline.
A student can believe a viral post.
A friend can share a claim without checking it.
And suddenly, something unverified becomes something everyone believes.

Not because people intended to deceive—sometimes, simply because 𝙬𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙗𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙚 𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙩.

This is where media and information literacy becomes more than a classroom concept. It becomes a daily practice: in the stories we consume, the posts we amplify, the conversations we join, and the things we choose to believe.

This October, as we turn our attention to Global Media and Information Literacy, perhaps the better question isn't “𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘰 𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸?”

Perhaps it's:

“𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙙𝙤 𝙄 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬?”

Because leadership does not require us to be right all the time.

Sometimes, it requires us to be humble enough to say:

“𝙒𝙖𝙞𝙩. 𝙇𝙚𝙩 𝙢𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙘𝙠.”

And maybe that is where responsible leadership begins.

“𝐀𝐑𝐒 𝐃𝐎𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐈 — 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆.”

Teaching is more than lessons written on a board.
It’s the patience to explain things one more time, the encouragement when we start doubting ourselves, and the little reminders that make us believe we can do more than we think.

To every teacher who has stayed after class, answered “Ma’am/Sir, may tanong po…” for the nth time, checked our work, challenged our thinking, and believed in us even when we didn’t believe in ourselves,

𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊 𝐘𝐎𝐔.

Today, SIKLAB is opening a little space for the words we don’t always get to say.

Drop your heartfelt note for your teachers.
Tell them what you appreciate.
Thank them for a lesson.
Share a memory.
