Charting the Course for Dapitan Dive Spots: Dapitan Tourism Office Leads Initial Coordination for Sustainable Development
The City Government of Dapitan, through the Dapitan Tourism Office, spearheaded the Initial Coordination Meeting for the proposed Dapitan Dive Spots Development at the 2nd Floor Amphitheater, Dapitan City Hall, on August 22, 2026.
Led by Jervie Q. Padrones, Officer-in-Charge of the Dapitan Tourism Office, the meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Bustling Organization of Young Aqualads (BOYA), DIVE Dapitan (ANIMA), and tourism officers, whose participation provided valuable perspectives on the potential development of Dapitan’s dive sites.
The initial discussions identified Tag-Ulo, Banbanan, Baylimango, and Guimputlan as areas with potential for further assessment and development as dive destinations. Stakeholders shared insights on skills development and capacity building, scientific research and assessment, sustainable infrastructure, community preparation and participation, livelihood opportunities, and the protection and preservation of marine resources.
More importantly, the initiative aims to adopt a scientific, community-centered, and multi-stakeholder approach, bringing together divers, local communities, barangays, and concerned organizations to ensure that the development of Dapitan’s dive spots will be guided by scientific evidence, local knowledge, responsible tourism, and environmental stewardship.
Under the leadership of Mayor Evelyn T. Uy, the City Government of Dapitan remains committed to strengthening partnerships that will help explore and develop the city’s marine tourism potential while ensuring the protection, preservation, and sustainable management of its coastal and marine resources.
This is only the beginning. The initial coordination meeting marks the first step toward a shared vision for Dapitan’s dive spots—one that balances tourism development with environmental protection, community empowerment, scientific research, and long-term sustainability.
Through continued collaboration, research, capacity building, and careful planning, the City Government looks forward to working with its partners and communities in shaping Dapitan’s dive spots into sustainable, responsible, and community-driven tourism destinations.
