Safety Measures in Place for 2026 Schools Division Athletic Meet (SDAM)

To promote the welfare and protection of participants during the 2026 SDAM, LRP Desks were established in five designated billeting schools: Catabaan Elementary School, Dapa National High School, Dapa Central Elementary School, Don Enrique Navarro Memorial School, and Siargao National Science High School.

Furthermore, the official contact details of SDO Siargao, Dapa Municipal Police Station, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office of Dapa were posted in all playing venues ahead of the games to facilitate prompt response and assistance when needed.

Division Screening and Accreditation Committee (DSAC) Upholds Integrity and Inclusivity in Athlete Verification

The Division Screening and Accreditation Committee (DSAC) has successfully completed its evaluation and verification of coaches, assistant coaches, chaperones, and learner‑athletes for the Siargao Division Athletic Meet (SDAM) 2026.

The committee verified the authenticity of credentials and compliance with established standards, ensuring fair and equal recognition of all individuals—women and men alike—in their respective roles. Only a minimal number of learner‑athletes were disqualified due to overage, further underscoring the integrity and credibility of the entire delegation.

This outcome reflects the division’s strong commitment to fairness, transparency, and gender‑responsive participation.

By safeguarding inclusivity and accountability, the committee reinforces confidence in the readiness of the division’s athletes and mentors to represent the values of discipline, equity, and excellence.

Parents Gain Insights on Child Protection at Dapa Central Elementary School (DCES) & SPED Center

DAPA, Surigao del Norte – Parents of Dapa Central Elementary School & SPED Center participated in a Child Protection Forum on August 20, 2026, with Eliakem Revil, Division Learner Rights and Protection (LRP) Focal Person of Bislig City Division, serving as resource speaker.

During the discussion, Revil underscored the importance of parental guidance, parental authority, positive discipline, and a supportive home environment. He emphasized his key concepts, “Walang Batang Ipinanganak na Bully,” and "Walang Batang Ipinanganak na Kriminal" stressing that children learn behaviors from their surroundings and that parents play a crucial role in teaching respect, empathy, and responsibility.

Drawing from his expertise and research, Revil shared practical insights on child protection. His PhD thesis focuses on Child Protection, further strengthening the relevance of his advocacy and messages.

The discussion left a lasting impression on the participants, particularly one mother who conveyed her appreciation for the knowledge and insights she gained from the session. She noted that the forum enhanced her understanding of effective parenting and expressed her hope that more mothers would be given the chance to attend and benefit from Sir Kem’s meaningful and inspiring talks.

DepEd Regional Office Launches 2026 Learner Rights and Protection on Wheels in General Luna

The 2026 Learner Rights and Protection (LRP) on Wheels Kick-Off Program successfully gathered education stakeholders on August 19, 2026 at General Luna National High School, through Cabuntog Hall, Brgy. 1, General Luna, Surigao del Norte. The activity was hosted jointly by SDO Siargao, SDO Surigao del Norte, and SDO Surigao City as part of efforts to strengthen the protection and promotion of learners' rights in schools and communities.

In his welcome remarks, Manuel O. Caberte, Schools Division Superintendent of Siargao Division, warmly welcomed participants and underscored the importance of collective action in ensuring safe, inclusive, and child-friendly learning environments for all learners.

Meanwhile, Dr. Harem L. Taruc, Chief of the Schools Governance and Operations Division (SGOD) of SDO Siargao, acknowledged the presence and participation of the various stakeholders and partners, including PTA officials, school heads, learner formation officers, guidance designates, project development officers, Division LRP focal persons, Regional Office Caraga personnel, Central Office personnel, and resource speakers whose support contributed to the success of the program

Messages of support were also delivered by Hon. Johnson Y. Sajulga, Municipal Mayor of General Luna, and Miguel Angelo S. Mantaring, Director IV of the Bureau of Learning Support Services (BLSS). Both officials highlighted the vital role of partnerships among Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), Local Government Units (LGUs), communities, and schools in advancing learner rights and protection initiatives. They emphasized that safeguarding children is a shared responsibility that requires strong collaboration and sustained commitment from all sectors.

The kick-off program featured lectures and discussions on child protection laws and policies, child-safe tourism, and the crucial role of parents in preventing bullying in schools. Through these sessions, participants gained valuable insights on strengthening child protection mechanisms and promoting learner well-being within and beyond school settings.

The LRP on Wheels initiative serves as a significant platform for raising awareness, building partnerships, and reinforcing the commitment of education stakeholders to uphold and protect the rights of every learner.

General Luna CES and SPED Center Receives Key Recommendation on Learner Support Services

During the BLSS Monitoring and Validation conducted at General Luna Central Elementary School and SPED Center on August 19, 2026, Dr. Miguel Angelo S. Mantaring, Director of the Bureau of Learning Support Services (BLSS), highlighted the importance of allocating funds for learner support initiatives beyond the classroom.

Dr. Mantaring recommended that schools maximize available resources to implement advocacy campaigns, including the distribution of informational flyers and the installation of educational posters within school premises. These activities are aimed at increasing awareness on critical issues such as violence prevention, anti-bullying campaigns, and the promotion of safe and inclusive learning spaces.

The recommendation underscores the role of advocacy and information dissemination in fostering a positive school climate. Through strengthened awareness efforts, schools can further support the creation of environments where learners feel safe, respected, and empowered to achieve their full potential both academically and socially.
