Storytelling is a different story.

Through the narrative of visuality, art inspires links and conjures vivid memories, thus establishing an intricate relationship between memory and art. By taking viewers back to certain times, locations, emotions, and personal histories, "Wala Yan Tongtong Co," which translates to "I Have a Story to Tell," in Pangasinan vernacular affirms the diversity and vibrancy of a thriving community while also influencing how we remember, understand, and react to our past and identity. It's a gateway that allows us to enter and savor the memories of a specific place, period, and people, reflecting on the same experience, recalling it differently, and perceiving the same reality through varied perspectives.

The renewed enthusiasm in mnemonics, valued for their role in safeguarding regional art and culture, stems from the blend of Pangasinan artists' work and the particular nature of their visual storytelling. This exhibition emphasizes that storytelling lies at the heart of culture, illustrating how histories are preserved and passed on, how customs are shared, and how traditions become embedded within a community. These components encapsulate what makes the wind shake the husks; their stories to tell are meant to uplift the seasons, celebrate, and highlight the subtleties and flourishes that are mirrored in their recollections. The visual chronicles of a group convey the distinct nature of this uncommon culture, sika so istorya da.

A Salty Project at Arte: Cultivating Creativity and Awareness

A Salty Project proudly took part in Arte: Regional Art Fair, a key event in the National Arts Month Celebration 2025. Held from February 19 to 21 at the Don Leopoldo Sison Convention Center in Alaminos City, Pangasinan, the fair gathered artists from Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte to showcase the region’s flourishing artistic talents.

The event, themed "Ani ng Sining, Diwa at Damdamin", highlighted the richness of Northern Luzon’s creative scene. A Salty Project contributed to the vibrant gathering with thought-provoking works that explored identity, storytelling, and cultural memory. Among the featured presentations was Consapevolezza, a collection of sweeping visual narratives crafted by artists from Europe and the Philippines. Showcased by Sylvester Salcedo, Consapevolezza unfolded like a tapestry of awareness—each piece a poetic meditation on the shifting boundaries between knowing and feeling, between presence and perception.

A Salty Project was well-represented by a dynamic group of exhibiting artists, including Pipo Domagas, Mark Laurence Lopez, Manolo Gamboa, Chriztane Estrada, Rei Chan, Tancy Biason, Rey Evangelista, Marni Evangelista, Thorni J, Dionie Fernandez, Arch. Camille Estrada-Lumiguen, and Mareen Tolentino. Their works, reflecting a shared commitment to pushing artistic boundaries.

Beyond exhibitions, Arte served as a dynamic space for artistic exchange. A Salty Project actively engaged with visitors through conversations about the creative process, fostering connections that extended beyond the canvas. The fair was more than a display of artworks—it was a celebration of expression, a gathering of minds, and a reaffirmation of art’s role in shaping our collective consciousness.

As the event concluded, Arte left an inspiring mark on both artists and audiences, reinforcing the importance of regional collaborations in the ever-evolving Philippine art landscape. A Salty Project remains committed to pushing creative boundaries, bringing more stories to life through art.

Art is storytelling. It is history, identity, and community woven into colors, textures, and forms. Wala Yan Tongtong Ko—which means I Have a Story to Tell—is more than an exhibit; it is a declaration of the enduring power of Pangasinan artistry. It affirms that regional art is not just alive but thriving, rich with narratives that demand to be seen, heard, and understood.

Beyond celebrating Pangasinan’s creative spirit, this exhibit challenges misconceptions about regional art, unveiling its depth, range, and significance. In a rapidly globalizing world, it stands as a powerful reminder that local stories matter—that the voices of Pangasinan artists must be valued, uplifted, and remembered.

Presented as part of National Arts Month 2025, this exhibit is in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Provincial Government of Pangasinan, the Pangasinan Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO) (Pangasinan Tourism), A Salty Project, and Banáan Pangasinan Provincial Museum.

Let's gather to appreciate, reflect, and be inspired by the stories behind the artworks.

See you there.

See you.

The Provincial Government of Pangasinan, through the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs office, is thrilled to invite you to the launching of “Wala Yan Tongtong Ko” (I Have a Story to Tell)—an exhibit that celebrates the power of storytelling in Pangasinan culture through art.

At the heart of this exhibit is "A Salty Project", a dynamic group of artists dedicated to preserving and reinterpreting Pangasinan’s cultural identity through modern artistic expression. Inspired by the province’s deep-rooted connection to salt-making and its vibrant heritage, the collective seeks to bridge the past and present by transforming personal and communal narratives into visual masterpieces. Their works serve as a testament to the resilience, creativity, and evolving spirit of the Pangasinense people.

This exhibit serves as a platform for local artists to share their narratives, preserving history, expressing identity, and strengthening community ties.

By showcasing the depth and diversity of Pangasinan’s artistic heritage, we aim to foster appreciation for regional art and ensure that the voices of our artists are heard and celebrated.

Join us as we unveil a collection of compelling artworks that bring to life the rich stories and traditions of Pangasinan.
