For the first time in the Philippines, women farmers are leading the pilot implementation of Regenerative Benchmarking β€” a community-based framework designed to measure the overall health, wellbeing, resilience, and regenerative capacity of communities across ecological, social, economic, cultural, and governance dimensions.

Led by the Alliance of Women for Regenerative Agriculture (AWRA), in partnership with TheFutureCo and the Barangay Agdahon Council, the pilot initiative will be implemented in Barangay Agdahon,Cuartero Capiz, placing rural grassroots women and local farming communities at the center of shaping regenerative futures for the next generations.

Inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness (GNH) framework, and the Philippine’s Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS), Regenerative Benchmarking seeks to move beyond traditional development measurements by recognizing not only challenges, but also the strengths, resilience, relationships, participation, ecological stewardship, and regenerative potential of communities.

The initiative reflects a growing global recognition that regenerative agriculture is not only about food production, but also about restoring ecosystems, strengthening communities, preserving culture, advancing wellbeing, and building systems that sustain life for future generations.

At a time of climate vulnerability, food insecurity, and social inequality, rural grassroots women are emerging as vital leaders in advancing resilient local economies, food systems, environmental stewardship, and community-driven solutions rooted in care, participation, and intergenerational responsibility.

Recently, AWRA, TheFutureCo, National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) Youth and Students Sector, and the Barangay Agdahon Council also successfully held the Paghinugyaw Women Farmers Festival in Agdahon, Cuartero, Capiz β€” bringing together women farmers, youth leaders, local government agencies, and community stakeholders in celebration of empowerment, regenerative agriculture, wellbeing, and inclusive rural development.

These initiatives contribute to the celebration of the International Year of the Woman Farmer , honoring the leadership, resilience, and transformative role of women farmers in cultivating regenerative and thriving communities for present and future generations.
