Ramadhan Mubarak!

Ramadhan is the light that guides us back to righteousness, a blessed month to purify the heart and strengthen the soul, to let our faith grow stronger, to forgive, reflect, and return to Allah, embracing patience, prayer, and gratitude as its true spirit, and may it soften our hearts and unite our Ummah.

ICYMI | TMPP Chairman and Managing Director Hadji Harris M. Ismael, MPA, attended the State of the Bangsamoro Youth Address (SOBYA) delivered by Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) Chairperson Nasserudin D. Dunding in celebration of International Youth Day (IYD) 2025 on Tuesday, 12 August 2025.

The annual SOBYA serves as a platform to gather youth leaders, peace advocates, and development champions from across the Bangsamoro, highlighting their vital role in building inclusive communities and sustaining the gains of the peace process, and underscoring the Bangsamoro Governmentโ€™s commitment to empowering the younger generation as key drivers of progress and transformation in the region.

In his address, Chairperson Dunding highlighted the milestones of the Commission by building on the pioneering programs of its first Chairperson, Dr. Marjanie Mimbantas Macasalong, including initiatives that expanded youth participation in governance, strengthened advocacy for education and employment, and advanced grassroots peace-building, while emphasizing continuity and innovation to ensure that the BYC remains a catalyst for youth empowerment.

The event was graced by Dr. Marjanie Mimbantas Macasalong, who expressed his support for the Commissionโ€™s ongoing journey, and attended by hundreds of youth champions, advocates, and Bangsamoro Government officials, with Chairperson Dunding joined by BYC Commissioners Hamdie Tanjil (Basilan), Mohammad Faizal Alih (Sulu), and Pratima Sabal Samsaraji (Tawi-Tawi), along with two Ex-Officio Members for Settler and Indigenous Peoplesโ€™ Communities, reflecting the diversity and inclusivity of Bangsamoro youth representation.

On this day, marks the 54th commemoration of the 1968 Jabidah Massacre that took the lives of 200 young Moro men at the Island of Corregidor after they refused to continue participating in their training when they found out the covert nature of their assignment.

This incident was one factor that triggered the Moro people to fight for self-determination.

The Bangsamoro Day captures history of the Bangsamoroโ€™s journey against decade-long injustices in the country towards the realization of lasting peace, and fulfillment of right to self-determination.

As we commemorate Bangsamoro History Month, The Moro Peace Project, stands in solidarity in honoring the brave martyrs of the Bud Dajo Massacre, one of the most harrowing tragedies in the history of the Bangsamoro region.

On March 5-8, 1906, US military forces killed 1,000 Tausug men, women and children during an assault on a Moro stronghold at Bud Dajo in Sulu Island, Philippines.

Bud Dajo or Bud Dahu is a cinder cone, and the second highest point in the Island of Sulu. It is one of the extinct volcano located within 8 kilometers from the town of Jolo. It was declared as Mount Dajo National Park in 1938.

This painful chapter serves as a testament to the enduring courage and sacrifice of our ancestors in defending the Bangsamoro homeland and asserting their right to self-determination.

The Massacre of Bud Dajo rightfully belongs in the same category of historical atrocities as Wounded Knee in 1890 or the better-known My Lai Massacre of 1968.

Let this remembrance strengthen our collective resolve to preserve the legacy of our forebears and uphold the ongoing pursuit of genuine peace and freedom for the Bangsamoro People.
