A significant step forward as we gathered with Barangay Local Government Units (BLGUs) from across BARMM region for our quarterly meetingโthis time, with a clear and urgent focus: centering womenโs inclusivity in every barangay platform and initiative. For far too long, womenโs perspectives, needs, and leadership have been underrepresented in local governance spaces. Our meeting aimed to change that by turning commitments into concrete actions that ensure women are not just beneficiaries of programs, but active participants, planners, and decision-makers in their own barangays.
WHAT WE ADDRESSED:
Inclusive Decision-Making Bodies
We emphasized the need for mandatory representation of women in all barangay committeesโfrom development planning to disaster risk reduction. BLGUs committed to reviewing their current structures and ensuring at least 30% womenโs participation in key platforms by the end of this year.
Including womenโs in every platform isnโt just about fairness it makes our barangay programs more effective. When women are recognize, we address issues.โ โ Barangay Chairman of Atong Atong.
Weโre grateful to all BLGUs for their commitment, and to the women leaders who joined us to share their insights.
