Meet Dr. Naima Gumaga-Pendi, an academic, civil society leader, researcher, and advocate for women’s leadership and good governance in the Bangsamoro region. She serves as the President of the Moro Women Advocates for Good Governance (MWAGG), where she promotes principled governance and encourages greater participation of women in leadership and public affairs. She also serves as Chairperson of the Committee on Lobby and Advocacy of the League of Bangsamoro Organizations (LBO), helping bring community concerns and grassroots advocacies into regional discussions.
As an educator and researcher affiliated with Mindanao State University–Maguindanao, Dr. Pendi has contributed to studies documenting the realities, culture, and environment of Bangsamoro communities. Her research interests include the socioeconomic conditions of local fishing communities, aquatic plant distribution and ecosystem health in Lake Buluan, and the preservation of traditional Maguindanaon culinary practices and cultural rituals—work that highlights the importance of protecting both community welfare and Bangsamoro heritage.
As the 37th Nominee of UBJP, Dr. Naima Gumaga-Pendi brings together academic knowledge, grassroots advocacy, women's empowerment, cultural preservation, and good governance. Her journey reflects a commitment to ensuring that the voices of communities—especially women and those working at the grassroots—are heard and represented in the continuing development of the Bangsamoro. 💚
