“Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh” – Peace be upon you and the mercy and blessings of Allah.
Once a dream, now a reality to be fulfilled, the Restoration of the Old City Hall of Cotabato has begun.
This remarkable project, initiated by City Mayor Hon. Bruce D. Matabalao, stands as a beacon of hope and pride for every Cotabateño. Through the meaningful collaboration between Architect Gerard Lico of Arc Lico, Architect J. Basco (former UAP Cotabato Chapter President), and the United Architects of the Philippines – Cotabato Chapter Officers and Members for FY 2025–2026, a long-cherished vision is now coming to life.
The historic Old Cotabato City Hall, a masterpiece by Architect Juan Arellano, one of the Philippines’ most distinguished architects, will soon rise again, reborn as the Old Cotabato City Hall Museum and Library, along with a Tourism Hall and Shops. This transformation is not only an architectural restoration but a revival of Cotabato’s heart, honoring its legacy, culture, and people.
The UAP Cotabato Chapter FY 2025–2026 proudly participated in the presentation of Architect Lico, the meeting with Mayor Bruce D. Matabalao on October 6, 2025, and conducted an ocular site inspection of the Old City Hall grounds on October 7, 2025. Each moment reflected our shared passion and dedication to preserving the architectural soul of Cotabato.
This endeavor is more than the rehabilitation of a historic building. It is a symbol of unity, pride, and remembrance, a bridge connecting the stories of the past to the dreams of the future.
As architects, we are deeply honored to be part of this journey to serve, to create, and to restore with heart. Together, we build not just structures, but a lasting legacy for generations to come.
