Upholding multisectoral participation in development of policies and programs in the Bangsamoro Region, the Al Qalam Institute of the Ateneo de Davao University initiated a Multisectoral Dialogue called Lungtad Bangsamoro Bitiala Session on the Proposed Extension of the Bangsamoro Extension last February 17, 2021 (Wednesday) at the Bitiala Dialogue and Training Center, Cotabato City.

The said activity was attended by officials and members of different organizations and institutions representing various sectors such as but not limited to the youth, women, religious leaders, Indigenous Peoples, miority Moro communities, NGOs, POs, Media, SMEs, private sector and others in the Bangsamoro Region mostly from Cotabato City and Maguindanao. Other participants from the Lanap area and Island Provinces were also able to attend online via Zoom.

𝗕𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗔𝗟𝗔 𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗦 | 𝗗𝗜𝗖𝗧 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝟰𝗘𝗱 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿

On March 11, 2021, the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) launched a Tech4Ed Center at the Bitiala Dialogue and Training Center in Cotabato City.

This is made possible through the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) who provides for their Internet access through their ACCESS Mindanao Project (AdDU Community Connectivity Empowered by Satellite Services for Mindanao).

Present during the ceremony was Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Member of Parliament and Al Qalam Institute of the Ateneo de Davao University Executive Director Datu Mussolini Lidasan along with the Executive Vice President of AdDU, Mr. Jeremy Eliab, Project Lead of ACCESS Mindanao, Dr. Rogel Mari Sese, and Project Coordinator, Mr. Raul Vincent Lumapas.

DICT-MC3 Officials headed by Cluster Director Alimbzar P. Asum, DICT - Maguindanao/ Cotabato City Provincial Officer Engr. Manan Butongkay, and Tech4ED Focal Engr. Albert C. Gabriel were also there during the activity.

To setup the Tech4Ed Center, DICT provided computer units and a printer that can be used by the stakeholders of the Bitiala Center.

𝗕𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗔𝗟𝗔 𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗦 | 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

The Bitiala Dialogue and Training Center managed by the Al Qalam Institute for Islamic Identities and Dialogue in Southeast Asia of ADDU in Cotabato City, with the support of the ACCESS Mindanao Team installed its satellite connectivity on February 10, 2021.

The Bitiala Center is the 6th site and among the pioneering areas in the Bangsamoro Region to be provided with satellite internet as part of the mission of ADDU's ACCESS Mindanao Program of internet democracy and bringing immediate connectivity to remote and isolated areas of Mindanao using satellite technology. Through the use of space technology, we rapidly deploy satellite internet and connect schools, health clinics and community centers throughout Mindanao. We have already deployed 6 out of the 12 initial sites but it seems this number will increase beyond 12 real soon!

During the inauguration at the Bitiala Center, Fr. Joel Tabora and MP Datu Mussolini Lidasan, we were joined by BARMM MOTC Minister Dickson Hermoso. Minister Hermoso was impressed with the fast internet, remote monitoring capabilities and rapid deployment! We would be working with the BARMM to bring this technology to bring it especially to the BARMM island provinces where it is needed the most!

The International Committee of the Red Cross Philippines collaborated with the Bangsamoro Government through the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) and the Al Qalam Institute (AQI) of the Ateneo de Davao University in the conduct of a 3-day orientation on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) for the Chiefs of Staff of the BTA on April 6-8, 2021 at the Bitiala Dialogue and Training Center., Sitio Bubong, Barangay Datu Sarip Sinsuat (Kalanganan II), Cotabato City.

Kampo Liguasan: Bangsamoro Youth Eco Camp is the last Capacity Development Component of the 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙪𝙖𝙨𝙖𝙣: 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙀𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙀𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙅𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙂𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚
implemented by the Al Qalam Institute of the Ateneo de Davao University with the support of the 𝙉𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙀𝙢𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 conducted last October 28-30, 2020.

During the camp, more than 40 youth leaders selected from the more or less 100 Advocates for Sustainable Liguasan (ASuL) from different parts of Mindanao underwent ASuL Talks, Breakout Sessions, Teambuilding and Personality Development Exercises.

One of the pioneering events organized in the Bitiala Dialogue and Training Center months after its Inaugural Dialogue was the 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙥 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙎𝙊𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙨𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙤 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 conducted last November 28, 2019.

The event was organized by the Al Qaam Institute of Ateneo de Davao University with the support of the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office (UNRCO) which was also represented during the event by Senior Peace and Developmenty Advisor, Ms. Melina Nathan and Peace and Development Officer, Mr. Krister Fahlstedt.

The activity was divided into two parts. The morning session was a (1) dialogue with BTAs highlighting the critical analysis of local experts (BTA members) on the Bangsamoro Peace Process and Transition to the new Regional Government. On the other hand, the CSOs participants enhanced the analysis by sharing their own perspectives on the presentations through the (2) Aha – Ehem – Ahu Workshop.

Three (3) Members of Parliament graced the morning session including Executive Director Mussolini Lidasan, Atty Nabil Tan and Engr. Bai Intan Ampatuan.

Al Qalam conducts Inaugural Dialogue in Japan MOFA funded Bitiala Center

The Al Qalam Institute for Islamic Identities and Dialogue in Southeast Asia of the Ateneo de Davao University conducted its Inaugural Dialogue with the partners and community stakeholders at the Bitiala Dialogue and Training Center in Cotabato City on September 23, 2019.

The said dialogue which highlighted the current events, developments and challenges the BARMM was graced by the presence of officials from the Japanese Embassy / Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) headed by Economic Minister Masahiro Nakata together with other embassy and JICA Personnel including First Secretary Yosuke Tamabayashi. Mr. Chetan Kumar, Senior Advisor for Peacebuilding of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was also present in the activity.
Al Qalam’ Executive Director and Member of the Parliament Datu Mussolini Sinsuat Lidasan was the lead discussant of the dialogue which was facilitated by the Institute’s Deputy Executive Director Kenny Lloyd Angon.

Other guests include MP Susan Anayatin of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), officials and representatives of the City Government of Cotabato, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cotabato, Office of the Presidential Adviser for the Peace Process (OPAPP), Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA), Forum Civil Peace Service / forumZFD - Philippines Program, Islamic Relief Philippines, International Organization on Migration and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The community stakeholders were represented by the sectoral leaders and BLGU Officials of Barangay Kalanganan II. Another dialogue (more contextualized approach) was also conducted with the rest of the community members facilitated by the Dialogue Facilitators of the Bitiala Center.
This is one of the activities of the Institute in celebration of the National Peace Consciousness Month.

The Al Qalam Institute of Ateneo de Davao University with the presence of the Administrators of the university headed by the University President, 𝙍𝙚𝙫. 𝙁𝙧. 𝙅𝙤𝙚𝙡 𝙏𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖, 𝙎𝙅 and the partners from the Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) represented by 𝙁𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙎𝙚𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙔𝙤𝙨𝙪𝙠𝙚 𝙏𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙮𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙞 and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), conducted the Inauguration and Inter-faith Blessing of the Bitiala Dialogue and Training Center last January 29, 2019.
