๐ŸŒฟ FOREST WITHOUT MOSQUITOS
Claveria, Cagayan ยท Northern Luzon, Philippines

A Green Heart Foundation Initiative

There is a forest growing in Claveria, Cagayan โ€” and it grows unlike any other in the Philippines.

Between every row of trees, Citronella has been planted โ€” deliberately, systematically, and with one bold ambition: a forest where mosquitoes do not belong. No pesticides. No chemicals. Only the oldest, most honest the earth has ever produced.
We call it the .

Will we reach zero? Perhaps not but we aspire to it โ€” and we plant toward it every single day.

๐Ÿงญ FOR THE TRAVELER

Walk a trail where the air carries the natural scent of citronella. Linger in a forest clearing without reaching for insect repellent. Experience firsthand what a chemical-free, nature-powered sanctuary feels and smells like. It is a genuine and half man-made โ€” and there is no other place like it in Asia.

And while you are in Claveria โ€” the town itself offers its own separate rewards: pristine sand beaches, fresh seafood straight from local fishermen, the warmth of authentic Claveria, Cagayan hospitality, and beachfront accommodation at Coffee House.

The forest brings you here. gives you every reason to stay.

๐Ÿ”ฌ FOR THE SCIENTIST AND RESEARCHER

This forest is an open-air laboratory. Questions of mosquito population dynamics, botanical repellent efficacy, canopy , and the long-term possibility of insect adaptation to citronella compounds are all alive here โ€” waiting for the rigor of proper scientific inquiry.

Green Heart Foundation actively welcomes research partnerships, field studies, and formal Memoranda of Agreement with universities and research agencies.

The baseline is being established. The timing to join this study has never been better. Volunteers came to plant and study.

"We plant not because we are certain of the outcome โ€” but because the dream of a forest without mosquitoes is worth every seed, every season, and every question it raises. Not an impossible dream."

Some visits leave a mark โ€” not just on the itinerary, but on the heart. ๐Ÿ”๏ธโ˜•

This is what a weekend visit to Coffee House in can look like.

We recently hosted distinguished guests from Glasgow, Scotland โ€” retired industry leaders whose careers have shaped the maritime domain. They came for the coffee and they left with so much more.

The road to Claveria is an adventure in itself โ€” rolling hills, dramatic coastlines, and the Caraballo mountain watching over it all as the shimmers in the distance. Northern Luzon does not announce its beauty. It reveals it, slowly, to those willing to make the journey. A place where mountains meet the sea.

We drove the grounds of the Port of Claveria โ€” dormant for now, but alive with possibility. We took in the cliffs and natural scenery that make this corner of the Philippines truly unlike anywhere else. We sat at Caferiano, where the coffee is good, the view is better, and the conversations go deep.

And then we made our way to Bacsay Mapulapula, where through Foundation, we ran an outreach program with our community. No grand ceremony. Just presence, connection, and care. As always, their warmth and gratitude was humbling beyond words.

All of this โ€” the scenery, the port, the coffee, the , the community โ€” in a single weekend. That is the Claveria experience.

To our guests from Glasgow โ€” thank you for making the journey north. We hope you carry a piece of this place with you. ๐Ÿค

Claveria is rising. Long, quietly, but surely.

NEW YEAR MISSION: Gift Baskets for the Indigenous Peoples of , Cagayan

After weeks of rain, the sun finally broke throughโ€”a fitting backdrop for Green Heart Foundation's first mission of 2026.

Indigenous Peoples (IPs) are the guardians of our ancestral lands, , and . Yet they remain among the most marginalized in our society. It is our collective responsibility to ensure they are not forgotten but rather included, supported, and empowered.

Our heartfelt thanks to Barangay Captain Saniata Pascua of Brgy. Salongsong for her swift coordination and to the dedicated of whose tireless service made this mission possible.

Together, let us continue building a more inclusive communityโ€”one act of kindness at a time.

๐Ÿ’š Small Hands, Big Hearts: Meet Our Youngest Volunteers ๐Ÿ’š

At just 6 and 7 years old, Micole and Baste are proving that age is never a barrier to making a difference.

These young hearts joined Green Heart Foundation's Christmas in Bacsay Mapulapula โ€” not as spectators, but as active volunteers โ€” distributing christmas baskets, sharing smiles, and learning the most important lesson of all: the joy of giving.

Why does this matter?

๐ŸŒฑ Sustainability starts with the next generation.
When children experience the power of service firsthand, we plant seeds of compassion that will grow for a lifetime. They don't just inherit the future โ€” they learn to nurture it.

๐Ÿค and in action.
Our youngest volunteers stood alongside seafarers, Indigenous community members, and advocates of all ages and backgrounds โ€” united by one mission. This is what inclusion looks like: everyone belongs, everyone contributes, everyone matters.

๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿง’ youth participation.
We believe that children are not too young to serve โ€” they are the perfect age to start. By involving them early, we raise a generation that values community over self, action over apathy, and love over indifference.

To Micole, Baste, and all our young volunteers: you inspire us. Your little hands carried more than Christmas baskets today โ€” you carried hope.

Small satisfying. Big Impact.

๐Ÿ™ Thank you to all our volunteers, partners, and the community of Bacsay Mapulapula for making this Christmas celebration possible.

๐ŸŽ„โœจ One Heart, One Christmas, One Community โœจ๐ŸŽ„

This season, the spirit of giving took on a deeper meaning in the hills of Bacsay Mapulapula.

What began as simple efforts from different hearts became one impactful act of love โ€” a Christmas celebration that brought together the generous souls of the Officers and Crew of MV Frederikke, passionate young volunteers championing diversity and inclusion, and the beautiful Indigenous community of Bacsay Mapulapula.

No special treatments. Just genuine hearts. Just presence. Just togetherness. Just a Christmas centered in Jesus name.

Because Christmas was never about how much we give โ€” it's about how we show up for one another. And on this day, strangers became family, differences became bridges, and a remote community felt the warmth of a world that cares.

This is the true gift of Christmas: unity in diversity, hope in simplicity, and love without borders, beyond oceansโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ™ Our heartfelt gratitude to Capt. Poul Andersen and the entire crew of MV Frederikke โ€” your kindness has crossed oceans and touched lives. Thank you for sailing with purpose and sharing your blessings with those who need it most.

Maligayang Pasko sa ating lahat! ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง PGC Relief Bank Unsealed

We're grateful to open the PGC Relief Bank today with a simple but meaningful gestureโ€”50 sacks of 5kg rice for our in Bacsay Mapulapula, Claveria, Cagayan.

With the favourable weather on our side, we wanted to help our IP brothers and sisters get ready for the upcoming season with stronger typhoons to come.

We know 50 sacks may seem modest, but for families who need it most, it can make a real difference. It's not about the size of what we giveโ€”it's about being there in advance and doing what we can with what we have.

To our who made this happen: thank you for your time, heart, and hands. To our IP community: we stand with you, always.
This is what Green Heart is all aboutโ€”small acts that we hope create big impacts in the lives we're blessed to serve.

Green Heart Foundation proudly sponsored the 3rd PGC Chess Open in Claveria, Cagayan with Claveria Chess Club, featuring two exciting categories - Adult and Children's Chess Open - with equal prizes awarded to winners in both divisions. Due to a remarkable surge in participation with significantly higher entries compared to previous years, the tournament required a larger venue and was successfully held at Taggat Elementary School on August 24, 2025.

The tournament received valuable support from Barangay Chairman, Honorable Atty. Carlos Sagucio, whose commitment to community development made this expanded event possible.
This growth in participation reflects the increasing recognition that chess transcends age barriers, offering invaluable benefits to players young and old alike. Chess serves as a powerful educational tool that sharpens critical thinking, enhances problem-solving abilities, and develops strategic planning skills. For children, the game builds concentration, patience, and academic performance while teaching valuable life lessons about decision-making and consequences. Adults benefit equally, with chess providing mental stimulation that keeps the mind sharp, reduces stress, and offers a constructive outlet for competitive spirit.

By supporting that welcome both generations, Green Heart Foundation recognizes that this timeless game creates bridges between young and old, fostering mentorship opportunities and building stronger communities. The partnership with local leadership demonstrates how chess initiatives can unite stakeholders in promoting intellectual growth and healthy competition.

Congratulations to all participants who demonstrated that chess truly is a sport for life - one that enriches minds, connects communities, and celebrates the power of strategic thinking at every age.

๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’š Stocking hope, one donation at a time ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฑ

Our amazing Volunteers are filling the PGC Relief Bank with essential dry goods for Indigenous Peoples and marginalized communities who often lack access to traditional relief programs.

Every bag of rice, every can of goods represents our commitment to disaster preparedness for those who need it most. When emergencies strike, these supplies will be ready to serve as a crucial lifeline.

But we're not done yet! The PGC Relief Bank still needs more dry goods to fully support our communities. Your contributions of rice, canned goods, and other non-perishables help us build stronger disaster preparedness for the most vulnerable.

Thank you to our incredible Green Heart donors and volunteers for their dedication, and to everyone who has yet to send support. Together, we're creating a safety net that will do the SMALL ACT, BIG IMPACT"!

Want to help? We're still accepting dry goods donations for the PGC Relief Bank!

๐ŸŒพ Introducing the PGC Relief Bank ๐ŸŒพ

Green Heart Foundation launches the PGC Relief Bank โ€” a dedicated emergency dry storage facility initiated to serve those who need it most during typhoon season.

Housed in a 40-foot shipping container, this facility begins as a stockpile of dry goodsโ€”starting with rice from the PGC summer harvestโ€”and is designed to prioritize IPs & marginalized groups who have little to no recovery support during disasters and calamities.

๐Ÿ’š As we move forward, the will continue to be improved and expanded โ€” building a stronger, more reliable safety net for communities too often missed out.

Because recovery shouldnโ€™t be a privilege โ€” it should be a right. Let's start before the rainy day comes...

Sea Turtle Release: Making Waves for Conservation! ๐Ÿข๐ŸŒŠ

had the privilege of managing an incredible activity for TM Shipping Aps in collaboration with and Pawikan Conservation Center. Our hearts are full after witnessing hundreds of hatchlings begin their journey to the ocean across the beautiful sandy beaches of Morong, Bataan!

These tiny travelers face enormous challengesโ€”only about 1% will survive to adulthood. Sea turtles are vital to maintaining healthy โ€”they're true ocean engineers! Their grazing keeps seagrass beds healthy and productive, providing habitat for numerous marine species. When they nest, their unhatched eggs provide essential nutrients to otherwise nutrient-poor beach ecosystems. Hawksbill turtles help maintain the health of coral reefs by feeding on sponges, while leatherbacks control jellyfish populations, preventing dangerous blooms. With 6 of 7 species now endangered, every hatchling release represents hope for their future and for the balance of our oceans. As these ancient creatures disappear, entire marine ecosystems risk falling out of balance.

Join us in protecting these ancient mariners. Together, we can ensure that sea turtles continue to navigate our oceans for generations to come.
