DA-10 Boosts Urban Farming Skills Through Mushroom Production Training in CDO
Cagayan de Oro City, October 1, 2025 — The Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10), through its National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP), successfully conducted a two-day training on the Package of Technology on Mushroom Production from September 30 to October 1, 2025, at Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City.
The training brought together 50 farmer-participants, staff from the City Agriculture Office, and DA-10 NUPAP personnel, all united by a shared goal: to enhance urban vegetable gardening practices through mushroom cultivation.
Led by technical experts Decheryvie P. Largo, Project In-Charge, and John Carlo C. Labadan, Administrative Aide V—both from the Research Center for Hillyland Development (RCHD)—the sessions covered essential topics including Mushroom Pure Culture, Spawn Preparation, Spawn Inoculation, Fruiting Bag Preparation, Mushroom Harvesting, and Value Adding.
Participants were guided through the entire mushroom production process, beginning with pure culture techniques. The training featured detailed, step-by-step illustrations and interactive hands-on activities, ensuring that farmers gained both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to apply in their own urban farming setup.
The initiative underscored the importance of mushroom cultivation as a sustainable and income-generating component of urban agriculture. DA-10 continues to empower communities by providing accessible, science-based technologies that promote food security and livelihood development. #
