16 Senior High Students Complete Work Immersion at Research Center for Hillyland Development

Sixteen Senior High School students from Don Gerardo Sabal Memorial National High School successfully completed their 10-day work immersion program at the Research Center for Hillyland Development.

The immersion, which ran for ten days, provided the students with valuable hands-on experience in research and community development initiatives. Under the guidance of the center’s staff, the learners were exposed to various activities such as data gathering, environmental monitoring, and project documentation.

DA-10 Boosts Urban Farming Skills Through Mushroom Production Training in CDO

Cagayan de Oro City, October 1, 2025 — The Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10), through its National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP), successfully conducted a two-day training on the Package of Technology on Mushroom Production from September 30 to October 1, 2025, at Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City.

The training brought together 50 farmer-participants, staff from the City Agriculture Office, and DA-10 NUPAP personnel, all united by a shared goal: to enhance urban vegetable gardening practices through mushroom cultivation.

Led by technical experts Decheryvie P. Largo, Project In-Charge, and John Carlo C. Labadan, Administrative Aide V—both from the Research Center for Hillyland Development (RCHD)—the sessions covered essential topics including Mushroom Pure Culture, Spawn Preparation, Spawn Inoculation, Fruiting Bag Preparation, Mushroom Harvesting, and Value Adding.

Participants were guided through the entire mushroom production process, beginning with pure culture techniques. The training featured detailed, step-by-step illustrations and interactive hands-on activities, ensuring that farmers gained both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to apply in their own urban farming setup.

The initiative underscored the importance of mushroom cultivation as a sustainable and income-generating component of urban agriculture. DA-10 continues to empower communities by providing accessible, science-based technologies that promote food security and livelihood development. #

RCHD Hosts Bamboo Planting and 3rd Quarter Council Meeting to Boost Misamis Oriental’s Green Economy

Claveria, Misamis Oriental — September 30, 2025

The Research Center for Hillyland Development (RCHD) hosted a Bamboo Planting Activity and the 3rd Quarter Meeting of the Misamis Oriental Bamboo Industry Development Council today, marking a significant step toward sustainable agro-industrial growth in the region.

Spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in partnership with the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 10 (DA RFO 10), the event brought together key stakeholders from government agencies, local government units, SUCs and private sector partners to strengthen the province’s bamboo industry roadmap.

Held within the scenic grounds of RCHD, the activity highlighted bamboo’s potential as a climate-resilient crop and a driver of livelihood opportunities. Participants planted giant bamboo species and discussed strategic initiatives to enhance propagation, processing, and market access.

Council members also reviewed progress on existing programs and aligned on action plans for the remainder of the year, reinforcing their commitment to making Misamis Oriental a leading bamboo hub in Northern Mindanao. #

Tikad Alang sa KAlamboan Association (TAKA) Members Trained on Tilapia Pond Culture by BFAR Experts

Claveria, Misamis Oriental — In a proactive move to enhance local aquaculture knowledge, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) conducted a hands-on training on Tilapia Culture in Pond last September 24–25, 2025 at the Research Center for Hillyland Development (RCHD).

Led by BFAR personnel Ian G. Lozada, the two-day activity was tailored for members of TAKA, an association of RCHD Job Order workers. Participants were introduced to best practices in pond preparation, stocking density, feeding management, and water quality monitoring—key components in successful tilapia farming.

The initiative aims to empower TAKA members with sustainable livelihood skills while promoting food security and responsible aquaculture practices in the region.
