📍EMPOWERING EDUCATORS ON ADVANCING RESEARCH SKILLS FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE (SESSION #4) (February 8, 2025, Saturday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm)

The faculty members of Danahaw Integrated School-Secondary were required to grasp a comprehensive understanding of how research proposals are crafted, adhering to their rudiments. To this effect, and more so, the fundamentals of intellectual property rights, particularly patent law including patentability criteria, infringement, and remedies were also taken into account in preparing their outputs for patent application. Since this was a vital process, educating them on protecting their research through IP applications helped enhance the institution’s reputation and boosted the morale of the teaching force.

To capacitate the participants the DepEd Secondary faculty of Danahaw Integrated School in research endeavors and in focusing on specific phenomena related to their fields, the training was geared towards enhancing their prior knowledge of the basics of IPR, as this was considered indispensable for their work. They were assisted in understanding the need to protect one’s intellectual properties before dissemination or publication.

In line with this, the School of Advanced Studies, through its dedicated extensionists and the research unit, fulfilled its responsibilities as stipulated in the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed between the two institutions, specifically in rendering technical assistance to the faculty members of DIS-Secondary in their pursuit of enhancing their research capabilities deemed indispensable for their teaching careers.

This was the fourth session in the workshop series that started in March 2024. It was held on Saturday, February 08, 2025, at Computer Lab 4 on this campus, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Furthermore, the activity was facilitated by the Research and Extension units of the university, together with the Dean of SAdS, her chairpersons, faculty, and staff.

📍Mangrove Nursery Establishment (October 9, 2024)

The Municipality of Clarin, like many coastal areas in the Philippines, was severely impacted by Typhoon Odette (Rai), which caused extensive damage to natural mangrove forests. These mangroves, which once served as vital buffers against storm surges and coastal erosion, were greatly affected, leaving the community more vulnerable to future typhoons and sea-level rise.

Mangroves played a critical role in protecting coastal communities, providing shelter to marine life, and sequestering carbon, which mitigated climate change. The damage caused by Typhoon Odette highlighted the urgent need to rehabilitate and restore these ecosystems to strengthen the municipality’s resilience to climate impacts and enhance biodiversity.

This training on mangrove nursery establishment was timely and essential. It equipped participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to support the rehabilitation of damaged mangroves, ensuring a sustainable supply of seedlings for restoration efforts. By engaging local stakeholders in this initiative, we aimed to contribute to the long-term restoration of Clarin’s mangrove forests, enhancing both ecological and community resilience.
