Sagakay [sa.gá.kay.] : aid (v.); assist (v.); carry (v.)

Sagakay is a nonprofit youth organization in Clarin, Misamis Occidental that was founded last December 2022 during the onslaught of a devastating flood in the province. It is composed of different youth individuals from Clarin who share common values in reaching out to people to make a difference in the society by being of service to them.

This Pride Month, Sagakay, Inc. was honored to be specially invited to attend the official launch of the "Partnership for Youth in the Philippines" program at The Bayleaf Hotel in Manila, represented by Raya Manawari. This two-year initiative by the Embassy of France to the Philippines and Micronesia and Hiraya officially opened its portal to provide crucial funding and mentorship for local youth-led organizations. As a proud transwoman in leadership, Raya brought a vital perspective to the event, ensuring LGBTQIA+ voices are deeply woven into this new chapter of national youth advocacy.

The event featured a Roundtable Discussion: Building a Civic Generation, where leaders discussed transforming grassroots energy into lasting institutional impact. A key focus was how youth organizations can truly include marginalized and underrepresented communities. Through Sagakay Inc.'s highly valued participation, Raya’s representation helped champion a sustainable, diverse, and deeply inclusive future for civic engagement.

Felina Sevilla Oaminal National High School, through the active leadership of its SSLG officers, successfully conducted its Binhiyahan Re-Echo as part of its commitment to environmental awareness and youth engagement. With the support and presence of the Sagakay Officers, the activity reflected a strong sense of collaboration among student leaders, all united in encouraging their fellow students to take part in protecting and preserving the environment.

Gracing the event as speaker, Ms. Angie Sauza delivered an inspiring message anchored on the true meaning of “binhi” or seed—emphasizing the importance of planting awareness that can grow into responsible actions and sustainable habits. Through well-facilitated discussions and reflective activities led by the SSLG officers, students were guided to realize that even the smallest efforts can create a meaningful impact. More than just a re-echo, the Binhiyahan became a movement of purpose, cultivating environmentally conscious individuals ready to take action and make a difference.

In a meaningful step toward promoting environmental awareness and responsibility, the Holy Child High School of Clarin successfully conducted its Binhiyahan Re-Echo, led by the dedicated BEC-SVC officers and enriched by the insights of speaker Mr. Khyle Sabellano. With clarity and passion, Mr. Sabellano emphasized the importance of caring for nature and inspired the youth to become responsible stewards of the Earth.

Through engaging discussions and reflections, the BEC-SVC officers guided the participants in understanding their role in protecting and preserving the environment, while the presence of the Sagakay Officers highlighted unity and support for youth-led environmental initiatives. More than just a re-echo, the Binhiyahan became a movement of awareness where ideas were planted like seeds, ready to grow into habits of care, discipline, and sustainability, shaping a generation committed to making a difference.
