𝗖𝗚𝗔𝗗 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀

The Center for Gender and Development, in collaboration with the UNP Faculty Union, successfully conducted an orientation on the Safe Spaces Act and University policies on handling sexual harassment cases for members of the UNP faculty on April 21, 2026 at the UNP Marcos Hall.

The session aimed to deepen faculty understanding of gender-based sexual harassment (GBSH), including the acts that constitute it and the proper procedures for addressing such cases within the University.

This initiative affirms the institution’s commitment to upholding a secure, respectful, and inclusive academic community, and was further intended to remind faculty of their role as second parents to students, to refrain from engaging in such practices, to protect students and fellow employees by reporting incidents of sexual harassment, and to ensure they are properly informed of the applicable procedures for addressing such cases.

𝗧𝗢𝗗𝗔𝗬 | 𝗜𝗻𝗮𝘂𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗟𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱

The University of Northern Philippines proudly launched the 𝗚𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗟𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀, today, March 31, 2026 at the UNP Auditorium.

The lecture series is a platform which will serve as the official annual National Women’s Month Celebration activity for critical conversations, reflections, and learning, highlighting the triumphs and challenges of women across all sectors, and raising awareness on various gender issues of today.

Furthermore, it serves to honor our own Ilocana hero, 𝗚𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴, whose life story—from her birth in Santa, Ilocos Sur, to her heroic leadership, and ultimately her martyrdom—transcends time. She remains a symbol of resistance; of what it means to stand firm in one’s convictions, even in the face of overwhelming odds; and of leadership that knows no gender.

The inaugural lecture featured 𝗣𝗟𝗧𝗖𝗢𝗟 𝗕𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗚. 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗼 as guest lecturer/speaker, who shared her inspiring journey navigating a male-dominated public service, exemplifying resilience, leadership, and the breaking of barriers.

Spearheaded by the Center for Gender and Development, with the 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, headed by 𝗢𝗜𝗖-𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗿. 𝗖𝗶𝗱 𝗝𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗲𝗿, as the inaugural host-sponsor, hosting of the lecture series will rotate annually among university units ensuring that conversations on gender are not confined to a single discipline, but are woven into the fabric of our entire academic community.
