On March 14–15, 2026, Barangay Beddeng Laud headed by PB Janna Frances Pajaro, in partnership with the City Government of Vigan, under the leadership of City Mayor Hon. Randolf V. Singson, through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office spearheaded by Ma’am Mila Alquiza, successfully conducted a two-day Refresher Course on Basic Life Support and Water Safety Training.
The activity aimed to enhance and reinforce the knowledge, skills, and preparedness of responders in delivering life-saving interventions and ensuring effective water safety response during emergencies and disaster situations.
Out of twenty-one (21) registered participants, a total of nineteen (19) successfully completed the training program. On the first day, the morning session was held at Lola Dora’s Backyard Resort, where participants were introduced to fundamental water safety skills, including proper breathing techniques, water entry methods, and basic swimming strokes. In the afternoon, the training continued at the Quirino Stadium Swimming Pool, where participants applied their acquired knowledge in a deeper and wider setting. They successfully performed a 15-minute water treading exercise and completed a 150-meter swim incorporating freestyle, elementary backstroke, and breaststroke. The session also covered essential rescue competencies such as knot tying, rescue approaches, and towing techniques, followed by return demonstrations.
On the second day, participants were evaluated in an open water environment. They completed a one-mile swim and participated in a Water Rescue Simulation Exercise designed to assess their overall competence, including their skills, knowledge, and decision-making abilities in critical scenarios.
Through this initiative, Barangay Beddeng Laud reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a well-prepared, highly skilled, and resilient community, ensuring that its responders remain capable and ready to save lives in times of emergencies.
Barangay Beddeng Laud extends its sincere gratitude to the City Government of Vigan for its unwavering support, to the Vigan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) for serving as facilitators, to the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur, and to Lola Dora’s Backyard Resort for the use of their swimming pool. Appreciation is also extended to all sponsors who generously supported the successful conduct of this training.
