Kinagagangay is more than simple obedience. It is a quiet and faithful surrender โ the willingness to entrust oneโs life to God even when the road is unclear, the waiting is long, and the heart grows tired. It is the kind of trust that says, โLord, I may not understand everything, but I place my life completely in Your hands.โ
On the 9th day of Simbang Gabi, Rev. Fr. Bryan reminded us through his homily that Godโs ways often surprise us. He shared this powerful truth:
(Even ordinary and simple people are used by God so that His blessings may be poured out.)
God does not always choose the powerful, the wealthy, or the perfect. He chooses hearts that are open, humble, and willing to trust.
We clearly see this obedient trust in the lives of Elizabeth and Zechariah. For many years, they prayed for a child and waited in hope, enduring silence and disappointment. When God finally spoke His promise, it was not fulfilled immediately. Zechariah was rendered silent, and Elizabeth carried her child in hiddenness. Once again, they were asked to wait โ but this time, with deeper faith.
When Mary visited Elizabeth, something extraordinary happened. The child in Elizabethโs womb leapt for joy.
This was more than a physical movement. It was a moment of divine recognition. Even before birth, John the Baptist recognized the presence of the Savior. Joy overflowed because God was near. The promise was already alive and at work.
Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, did not complain about receiving her blessing late in life. She did not compare herself with others. Instead, she rejoiced and praised God for His perfect timing. She saw clearly that God had been faithful all along.
Through them, we are reminded of Fr. Bryanโs homily: God uses the simple โ to pour out His blessings. Mary, Elizabeth, and Zechariah were not extraordinary by the worldโs standards, yet God worked powerfully through their obedient trust.
This teaches us that when we live with it, we begin to recognize Godโs presence even in the quiet and hidden moments of our lives. Even when Godโs promises are still โin the wombโ โ unseen and unfinished โ joy can already leap within us.
Like Mary, may we proclaim with grateful hearts:โThe Lord has filled my heart with joy.โ
Trusting God without complaint, waiting without losing hope, and allowing ourselves to be used by God so that HIS blessings may be poured out through us.
For God is always faithful, always near, and always at work โ even through the simple, the ordinary, and the willing hearts.
