Artificial intelligence presents us with a new challenge. As Salesians, we are called to be ever more attentive and approachable toward young people, especially those who are searching for guidance, understanding, and a point of reference in significant adults. When such adults are absent or difficult to approach, young people may turn to tools like ChatGPT for help, advice, and even comfort. While artificial intelligence can provide useful information and responses, it cannot offer the kind of genuine human connection and personal encounter that can only come from real relationships. This reminds us of our responsibility as Salesians to be present, available, and willing to accompany young people, offering them not only answers, but also the human presence, understanding, and connection they need.
