Sharing another milestone! Let's go, Cebu!

Last Feb 23, the RRDIC (Regional Research, Development and Innovation Committee) passed a resolution endorsing the creation of the Cebu Provincial Technology Startup Council to the Economic Development Committee (EDC) and the Regional Development Council (RDC-7). The committee recognizes the council as a strategic mechanism that will enhance innovation governance, accelerate startup development, and contribute to regional competitiveness in Central Visayas.

Startup Ecosystem Alliance Cebu, Inc. (Startup Ecosystem Alliance Cebu) held a courtesy call and strategic coordination session with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office No. VII, reinforcing collaboration to advance the region’s innovation-driven startup ecosystem.

The meeting aligned Startup Ecosystem Alliance Cebu’s upcoming initiatives — including mentoring programs, a tech startup business exposition and angel investment networking — with DOST’s regional science and technology priorities.

During the session, DOST 7 reaffirmed its support for the newly created Technology Startup Council of the Province of Cebu, established through a directive signed by Governor Pamela Baricuatro on January 15, 2026, to coordinate policies and partnerships supporting local startups.

DOST 7 highlighted plans to provide mentoring, capability-building and prototyping support through its Innovation Hub, while ensuring programs remain aligned with regional research and innovation priorities through the Regional Research, Development and Innovation Committee.

Cebu continues to strengthen its position as the Philippines’ second-leading startup ecosystem after Metro Manila, ranking No. 469 globally and 10th in Southeast Asia as of 2025, with strong growth in fintech, edtech, e-commerce and software-as-a-service sectors.

Startup Ecosystem Alliance Cebu, Inc. is a collaborative network of founders, enablers, investors and institutions working to grow Cebu’s startup community through programs, partnerships and innovation-driven initiatives.

THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 7 has pledged support for the newly created Technology Startup Council of the Province of Cebu, saying it will help provide a strong foundation for innovation and startup development in the province.

In a statement, DOST 7 said it will extend mentoring, capability-building training and prototyping support through its Innovation Hub to help startups move from early-stage ideas to market-ready technologies.
