The collaborative summer workshop of GOODLand and BIHIYA was successfully completed together with the residents living near the watershed areas of Sitio Kulo and Sitio Nangka. The workshop was led by GOODLand team member and BIHIYA Association official Roxanne Carano-o, together with Rosabella Carano-o, a farmer who shared natural farming practices being done in Bihiya.
In the second part of the workshop, we explored the importance of the watershed, the role of biodiversity in protecting and enriching water sources, and the identification of different tree species found in Bihiya that contribute to people’s well-being and to a cleaner and more abundant environment for future generations.
The main participants of the workshop were children living in and around the watershed areas. As the future caretakers of this land, they already carry deep knowledge of the area: what plants can be eaten, how to move through the hills and forests. Through the workshop, we hope to further empower them in this knowledge and deepen the understanding that this watershed is not only important to their own community, but plays a vital role in the water, biodiversity, and future of the entire island.
At the same time, the workshop became a space for the children to spend time together, get to know one another better, share stories and experiences, and simply enjoy being together while learning from the land around them.
Through sharing local knowledge, stories, and experiences together, the workshop became a space for learning, reflection, collective care, and joy for the land and water that sustain us all.
