📖 Romans 5:17 (NIV)
> “...how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!”
---
🌿 1. What Is the Gift of Righteousness?
The gift of righteousness means that through Jesus Christ, God declares us righteous — not because of what we’ve done, but because of what Christ has done for us.
It’s called a gift because we cannot earn it through good works, religion, or self-effort.
📖 Romans 3:22–24
> “This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe… all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”
✨ Key thought:
We don’t work for righteousness — we receive it by faith.
---
✝️ 2. Why Do We Need It?
Because of sin, all people are separated from God (Romans 3:23).
Our own righteousness is like “filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6).
Without God’s righteousness, no one can stand before Him.
But Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life and offered Himself as a sacrifice for our sins.
Through Him, we are made right with God.
📖 2 Corinthians 5:21
> “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”
---
🌤 3. What Happens When We Receive It?
We are forgiven and accepted by God.
We are no longer condemned (Romans 8:1).
We can approach God boldly in prayer (Hebrews 4:16).
We begin to reign in life — meaning we live with victory over sin, guilt, fear, and the power of darkness.
When you know you are righteous in Christ, you stop trying to earn God’s favor and start living from His favor.
---
🌱 4. How Do We Receive the Gift of Righteousness?
👉 By faith alone.
You simply believe and receive what Christ has done.
📖 Romans 10:10
> “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified…”
You don’t have to feel righteous — you just trust God’s promise that you are righteous in Christ.
---
💬 5. Application: Living as the Righteous
Live with confidence, not condemnation.
Live with gratitude, knowing you are accepted by God.
Live with victory, not defeat — because Christ’s righteousness gives you authority over sin and fear.
Live with humility, remembering it’s all by grace.
---
🙏 Closing Prayer
> Lord Jesus, thank You for giving me the gift of righteousness.
I don’t deserve it, but I receive it by faith.
Help me to walk in Your grace, free from guilt and shame.
Let me reign in life — not by my strength, but by Your righteousness in me.
In Your name, Amen.
