Official Statement from EBAI Basak Pardo π³οΈβπ
We, the officers and members of EBAI Basak Pardo, have remained committed to promoting the welfare, inclusion, and empowerment of the LGBTQIA+ community in Barangay Basak Pardo.
However, we are saddened and disappointed by the continued delays in the approval of our proposed GAD-funded activities. In just a few days, Cebu City will hold its Grandest Pride March, yet we are unable to participate because we have not received the support we need from our Barangay GAD.
We have observed that in other barangays, GAD offices actively coordinate with their LGBTQIA+ organizations, regularly following up on proposals and working together to ensure that activities benefiting the community are implemented. Unfortunately, this has not been our experience. Instead, we have had to repeatedly follow up and plead for the approval of our proposals.
We acknowledge and respect that some of our proposed activities, such as the Pride League Culmination, are not covered under the current GAD Plan and Budget and may not qualify for funding under the applicable JMC and NEDA guidelines. We fully understand that GAD funds must be used to address legitimate gender issues within the community.
However, our concern is this: What about the other proposals that are clearly aligned with the welfare, protection, and empowerment of the LGBTQIA+ community in Barangay Basak Pardo? These initiatives are consistent with the objectives of GAD, yet they continue to experience delays without clear action.
We are not asking for special treatment. We are simply asking for equal support, timely action, and genuine recognition of the needs of the LGBTQIA+ community. We hope our concerns will be heard and that our barangay will stand with us in promoting equality, inclusion, and meaningful community development.
The LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be supported! not only during Pride Month, but throughout the entire year.
