More Than Birthdays—A Celebration of Sisterhood

At Zonta Club of Cebu II, birthdays are never just about blowing out candles. Every two months, we celebrate our birthday sisters in a way that brings everyone together, with each celebrator group taking the lead in creating a unique and memorable experience for the Club.

Our June celebrators kicked things off with an engaging Trivia Time, where members tested their knowledge, shared laughs, and discovered that a little friendly competition is always good for the soul.

The July-August celebrators then raised the bar with a lively Otso-Otso Barrio Fiesta, turning an ordinary gathering into a colorful celebration of Filipino culture and camaraderie. Tables overflowed with well-loved Filipino dishes, while nostalgic favorites like sorbetes, cotton candy, and kakanin brought smiles and sweet memories to everyone.

The afternoon also featured a fascinating lecture and live demonstration on acupuncture, giving members an opportunity to learn about holistic health and wellness. To cap off the celebration, everyone went home with fresh vegetables—a thoughtful reminder that caring for our health is just as important as celebrating life’s joyful moments.

What makes these gatherings truly special is not the food, the games, or the festivities—though they certainly make the day more enjoyable. It is the genuine fellowship they foster. Every celebration reflects the spirit of Zonta: women uplifting women, creating lasting friendships, and finding joy in one another’s company.

After all, while birthdays come once a year, the gift of sisterhood is something we celebrate every day.

Zonta Club Cebu II proudly launched another year of Alimbukad: Basa Pamilya in our three partner schools—Poo Elementary School on its 11th year, Guadalupe Elementary School on its 11th year, and Cabancalan 1 Elementary School on its 7th year.

For more than a decade, Alimbukad has been empowering parents to become their children’s first teachers through the simple yet powerful practice of reading aloud at home. Together, we are nurturing a love for reading, strengthening families, and helping build brighter futures for every child.

Zonta Club Cebu II remains steadfast in our commitment to every child’s success. With over 800 K-2 families participating and weekly distribution of book bags containing more than 4,000 children’s books, Alimbukad brings stories and learning materials directly into the homes of our learners.

Together with our school administrators, teachers, parents, and community partners, we will continue to inspire a lifelong love of reading and ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, dream, and succeed.

CONGRATULATIONS ZONTA CLUB of CEBU 2 !!!

WHILE we are honored to receive the GOLD Award for Service, SILVER Award for Advocacy, and the MERIT Award for Zonta Says NOW, at the District 17 International Convention at Vancouver Canada, what we celebrate most is our members.

These recognitions are not about trophies or titles. They are a tribute to every Zister who chose to serve, volunteered her time, shared her talents, offered her ideas, and quietly worked behind the scenes. Every “yes,” every helping hand, every act of kindness made these achievements possible.

We are truly blessed with active, compassionate, and committed women who continue to show that service is not measured by how much we do individually, but by what we accomplish together.

Let us continue to inspire one another, support one another, and work as one club—for as long as we can, and with all that we can offer. There is still so much good we can do together for women and girls.

Congratulations, dear Zisters! These awards belong to each and every one of you. Thank you for making our club a community of friendship, purpose, and service. I am truly grateful to be part of this journey with all of you. 💛🌹

A special shout-out to our 3 beautiful and very energetic representatives to Zonta International District 17 Convention at Vancouver, Canada:
IVP Petite Garcia; EVP Elsa Basubas and Zn Virgie Capili.

May 13, 2026 AGELESS, FEARLESS & FABULOUS - High Tea at Cafe Laguna for ZCCII’s fellowship.

What an inspiring and enriching fellowship afternoon we shared. We are deeply impressed by the talk and presentation of Dr. Abalos — not only was it highly informative and truly eye-opening, but it was also delivered with warmth, creativity, and a very personal touch.

She thoughtfully incorporated photos of some of our own Zonta members into her presentation deck — from Chinggay, Petite, Maia, and Myrna, to memorable group photos from our club’s past activities — and somehow managed to make everyone look even younger and more gorgeous. It made the presentation all the more engaging, relatable, and special for all of us present.

It was truly an excellent choice of speaker for our fellowship afternoon. Likewise, Dr. Fremont Base was an outstanding second speaker, sharing valuable insights and practical information that empowered us to take full control of how we age gracefully, confidently, and healthily.

An afternoon filled with learning, laughter, inspiration, and friendship — very much in the true spirit of Zonta.

Many thanks to Zn. Maia Franco for putting this initiative together and Zn IVP Mayet Malinao for encouraging the membership to participate and Zn Atty Regal Oliva for adding fun and excitement with the tokens.

May 2, 2026 - IN THE HEAT OF THE DAY THE WARMTH OF ZONTA SHINES THROUGH

Only Zontians can stand under the intense noon-day sun and still welcome 133 registrants with genuine smiles, Flat Tops chocolates in hand, and hearts ready to listen.

Our deepest gratitude to our fellow Zontians who made this meaningful day possible:
Mandaue City Solo Parent Champion Mildred Simolde; co-organizer Petite Garcia; and our dedicated welcoming and registration committee — Laurie Boquiren, Wi Suan, Marilou Cañizares, Cita Chan, Bebot Ramas, and Mariter Klepp.

Thank you to Nat Ngo for providing the slippers; Maia Franco for facilitating the pasta donation; and Mildred Samolde for personally purchasing the towels and preparing all the giveaway packs.

We also appreciate Wee Wu for leading the prayers, and the many others who offered their time, support, and encouragement — President Lucy Carcel, IVP Mayet Malinao, Dra. Flor Miel, Margie Sy, Nonie Uy, Myrna Tan, Janet Chua, and our secretary Christi, who diligently managed the projector and sound system throughout the event.

A special thank you as well to Councilor Annalie Gepega, President of the Federation of Solo Parents of Mandaue City, for her invaluable support.

Strength in Every Story: Empowering Solo Parents in Mandaue City

On May 2, 2026, Zonta Club of Cebu II proudly organized its first-ever Solo Parents Gathering in Mandaue City—an afternoon dedicated to listening, learning, and uplifting one another.

Spearheaded by Mandaue City’s Solo Parent Champion, Zontian Mildred Simolde, the event brought together 133 solo parents, along with their group leaders and officers. It became a safe and supportive space where participants openly shared the realities and challenges of raising children solo—especially within today’s evolving economic landscape and the growing influence of social media on their families.

We are deeply grateful to our engaging and insightful speaker, Mr. Alex Del Mar, who guided parents on how to build meaningful conversations with their children and remain present in their lives, even amidst the demands of solo parenting and the digital world.

Our heartfelt thanks also go to Ms. Rose Gonato, who emphasized the importance of self-care—reminding every parent that caring for themselves is essential in nurturing their children.

This meaningful gathering would not have been possible without the tireless dedication of our Zonta members, whose hands-on support ensured the smooth flow of the program—from registration to the final moments of the event. Your generosity, time, and unwavering commitment to service—along with the thoughtfully prepared goods distributed—created a lasting impact on all 133 attendees.

The overwhelming response and enthusiasm for future gatherings affirmed one thing: this is only the beginning.

It was truly a fulfilling afternoon—one filled with strength, dignity, and hope for every solo parent we serve.

Continuing the Story of “HANDS United for the EARTH”

In our previous article, HANDS United for the EARTH, we spoke about collective action—how small, intentional efforts, when done together, can create meaningful change.

On April 25, 2026, that message came to life.

At the break of dawn, students, partners, and volunteers gathered at Eco-Park in Tayud, Consolacion—not just to clean, but to care. Each hand that picked up a bottle, each step taken along the shoreline, became part of a shared commitment to protect our environment.

What began as a simple coastal clean-up turned into a powerful demonstration of unity in action.

Together, we collected 262.75 kilograms of waste—a tangible reminder of both the challenges we face and the difference we can make when we act together.

From plastic bottles to glass, from discarded fabric to hazardous materials, every piece removed from our coastline represents one less threat to marine life and our communities.

More importantly, this effort reflects something deeper:
that change does not come from one person alone—but from many hands, moving with one purpose.

This initiative was made possible through the collaboration of the Zonta Club of CebuII, with:

Z Club members of Our Lady of Joy Learning Center, and Z Club members of Childlink High School—working together with local partners and the community.
