๐ŸŒฑ Planting Seeds, Growing Futures

Zonta Cebu II and Youth Inspire Sustainable Living Through Gardening

Beyond the clean-up effort, the day continued with a meaningful lesson in sustainabilityโ€”planting seeds and nurturing new life.

Members of the Zonta Club of Cebu II, alongside Z Club student members of Our Lady of Joy Learning Center and Childlink Learning School, were guided through the basics of planting and growing seedsโ€”equipping them with practical knowledge they can apply in their own homes.

The activity emphasized that caring for the environment goes beyond a single day of action. By encouraging the students to grow plants in their own backyards, the initiative planted not only seeds in the soil, but also a deeper sense of responsibility and connection to nature.

In the midst of a warm and humid day, the participants embraced the experience with enthusiasmโ€”finding joy in learning and purpose in contributing to a greener future.

Together, they discovered that even the smallest seeds, when nurtured, can grow into lasting change.

Special thanks to Ar. Mary Rose Villacastin Maghuyop, Administrator of Our Lady of Joy Learning Center in Jugan, Consolacion, and a Zonta member, for facilitating the planting activity, arranging the venue at the Eco-Park, coordinating with the concerned LGUs and the Department of Agriculture, and for inviting Cherry P. Ballescas of The Freeman.

๐ŸŒŽ HANDS UNITED for the EARTH

Zonta Club of Cebu II and Z Club Members Lead Eco-Park Clean-Up in Consolacion

In a meaningful show of unity and environmental responsibility, the Zonta Club of Cebu II, together with Z Club high school members from Our Lady of Joy Learning Center and Childlink Learning School, led a clean-up drive at a portion of the Eco-Park near the Talabahan in Consolacion, Cebu.

Working hand in hand with the local government units and the Department of Agriculture, the group collected approximately 157 kilograms of waste. More than just clearing the area, participants carefully segregated and classified the garbageโ€”transforming the activity into a hands-on learning experience on proper waste management.

Despite the heat and humidity, the energy and commitment of the volunteers never wavered. The activity highlighted the power of collective action and the importance of instilling environmental awareness among the youth.

Through this initiative, the young Z Club members experienced firsthand how small, purposeful actions can create a meaningful impact on the community and the environment.

Special thanks to Ar. Mary Rose Villacastin Maghuyop, Administrator of Our Lady of Joy Learning Center in Jugan, Consolacion, and a Zonta member, for arranging the clean-up site at the Eco-Park, coordinating with the concerned LGUs and the Department of Agriculture, and for inviting Cherry P. Ballescas of The Freeman.

As we close Womenโ€™s Month, we are reminded that empowering women is not a one-month effort, but a continuing commitment to stand beside women as they rebuild, recover, and rise.

EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH LIVELIHOOD TRAINING

In line with its commitment to empowering women and uplifting communities, Zonta Club Cebu II, through its Livelihood Committee Chair, Zontian Marilou Caรฑizares, successfully facilitated an opportunity for four women from Barangay San Roque to gain valuable skills in dressmaking.

Through her strong connections with government agencies, Ms. Caรฑizares helped the participants enroll in a three-month dressmaking course sponsored by the Department of Manpower Development and Placement. This initiative aimed to equip the beneficiaries with practical skills that can open doors to sustainable income opportunities.

To further support their learning journey, Zonta Club Cebu II provided essential dressmaking tools, as well as materials for creating a blouse, skirt, and dressโ€”ensuring that the trainees had the resources needed to fully benefit from the program.

The four participants proudly graduated on March 26, 2026, during ceremonies held at the Cebu City Hall Auditorium. A congratulatory message from Mayor Nestor Archival was delivered through a representative, recognizing the graduatesโ€™ dedication and achievement.

This initiative reflects Zonta Club Cebu IIโ€™s continued dedication to building brighter futures for women through education, skills development, and community support.

Thank you BOD member Zontian Marilou Caรฑizares for making this program possible. Thank you Pres Lucy Carcel and Dra. Vivian Seno for your support.

Recovery is not only about rebuilding homes and livelihoods. It is also about rebuilding confidence, voice, and hope.

During the workshop facilitated by Dr. Robby Echavez, participants were given space to share their experiences, reflect on their journeys, and identify the strength they already carry within themselves. Through guided discussions and activities on resilience, many were reminded that surviving difficult seasons is already a sign of strength.

This was the heart of the day.

Through sessions on safety and relaxation skills, expressing personal stories and visions, sharing stories of resilience, and identifying resilient attributes, the women were given space to speak, reflect, and reconnect with their own strength.

Some stories were difficult. Some were hopeful. But, all were equally important.

We are grateful to our resource speaker, Dr. Robby Echavez and his team at RBE Psychological Services, for guiding the participants through conversations and activities that focused on emotional recovery, resilience, and moving forward.

Recovery is not only about rebuilding houses and livelihoods. Recovery is also about rebuilding confidence, voice, and hope.

Bangon, Babaye: Paglaum. Pag-ayo. Pagpadayon.

In celebration of Womenโ€™s Month, Zonta Club Cebu II, in partnership with the City of Mandaue, conducted a Coping Skills and Emotional Recovery Workshop for Typhoon-Displaced Women last March 21, 2026 at the Barangay Opao Gym.

The workshop aimed to provide a safe space where women could share their stories, learn coping and relaxation techniques, reflect on their experiences, and rediscover their strength and resilience after the challenges brought by Typhoon Tino late last year.

More than a workshop, it was a day of listening, learning, healing, and reminding women that they are not alone in their journey.

We thank our resource speaker Dr. Robby Echavez, our partners from the local government, barangay officials, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this program possible.

When women are supported, communities become stronger.

Bangon, Babae! Padayon!

Artist Reception โ€” May 6, 2025

In a beautiful show of solidarity and celebration, the ZCCII ladies arrived in full supportโ€”dressed in purple in honor of Womenโ€™s Month and standing proudly with artist Paulina Constancia. The afternoon gathering paid tribute to women in their many roles: daughters, lovers, mothers, caregivers, friends, and community builders.

Through art and shared presence, the occasion celebrated the enduring spirit of womenโ€”finding a way forward with creativity, clarity, and quiet strength.

Congratulations to the Kโ€“2 Alimbukad Team of Poo Elementary School on another successful year of nurturing a culture of reading and family literacy!

For over a decade, Zonta Club Cebu IIโ€™s Alimbukad: Basa Pamilya program has touched the lives of 180 families every year, strengthening bonds, inspiring young minds, and empowering parents as their childrenโ€™s first teachers.

This meaningful work would not be possible without the steadfast support of the principal, dedicated teachers and staff, committed parents, and the wider community who believe in the power of literacy to transform lives.

Bravo to everyone involved! May this beautiful partnership continue to flourish for many more years, bringing hope, learning, and opportunity to every home you reach. ๐Ÿ“šโœจ
