In celebration of IVY 2026, we introduce Renee, an international volunteer from Taiwan who served in the Philippines with GIED. 🇹🇼🇵🇭
During her one-month volunteer service with GIED, Renee worked on website maintenance and marketing, created social media content, designed survey forms for events, and supported a youth exhibition and training sessions for German volunteers. Through these experiences, she gained hands-on skills in marketing and event planning while strengthening her confidence and communication skills.
For Renee, the most memorable part of her journey was the meaningful conversations and connections she shared with fellow volunteers and interns. Through discussions about society, culture, and personal experiences, she discovered the value of genuine cultural exchange and gained a broader perspective of the world.
Renee also shared how the warmth, optimism, and resilience of the Filipino community inspired her throughout her stay. Despite initially facing a language barrier, the support and encouragement of the GIED team helped her overcome her fears and grow in confidence.
She encourages future volunteers not to let fear or language doubts hold them back. You don't need to be perfect to make a difference—just keep an open mind and be ready to learn. 🌱
