The Heart to H.E.A.R.T. Talk achieves its first international recognition!

Through Zonta Club of Cebu I’s Women Empowerment Hub Project funded with ₱1 million from the Global Affairs Canada has grown into an inspiring movement for change. From being hailed as one of the exemplary projects by PBSP for reaching 14,000+ youth in 6 months, it has now earned an Award of Distinction for Ourstanding Advocacy at the recently held Zonta District 17 Conference in Macau.

A proud milestone for Zonta Club of Cebu 1, empowering women, creating impact, and making voices. Thanks to ZCC1 Pres. Mel GO, VPE Nancy Puentespina Berame, ZCC1 BOD, Tita Pearle Strolz-Canares, the ever supportive titas who were there during the trainings Carmela Baguia, Marilou Gallarde Arcenas, Barbara Sol Fernandez, and my partner in crime Adz Garbz. We would like to thank DEPED Cebu City, Talisay and Lapu-Lapu City for the partnerships.

According to the Commission on Population and Development, more than 3,300 girls aged 10–14 years old got pregnant in the Philippines in 2023—the youngest was only 8 years old.

This alarming reality is not just a health issue. Teen pregnancy is also linked to violence against women and children (VAWC), it can be a result of abuse, exploitation, or unequal power in relationships. Young girls often lack the ability to give full and informed consent, making them more vulnerable to coercion and violence.

True to its mission of empowering women and girls through service and advocacy, the Zonta Club of Cebu 1 has conducted several information campaigns in Cebu to raise awareness, correct myths, and address misconceptions about teen pregnancy.

Through our Heart to H.E.A.R.T. Talk School Caravan, we have reached more than 14,000 teenagers, equipping them with knowledge on reproductive health, consent, and self-empowerment.

Every girl deserves to live free from violence, make informed choices, and pursue her dreams without being robbed of her childhood. Together, let’s continue to create safe spaces and break the cycle of abuse.

As the world comes together to celebrate Mother’s Day, ZCC1 dedicated this special occasion to honoring mothers and empowering women. The team visited the Regional Haven for Women in Cebu City, a refuge that provides a safe, temporary home for abused women and girls.

The warm welcome was led by ZCC1 President Melita Ramos. During the event, participants and beneficiaries enjoyed an inspiring session on Parent-Child Communication, emphasizing the importance of nurturing relationships and fostering understanding. ZCC1 VAWC Chair, Zn Pearle Strolz, delivered a heartfelt and emotional talk that touched everyone’s hearts, inspiring hope and resilience among those present.

Generosity shined through as our Zontians distributed hygiene kits and food packs, bringing comfort and support to the women and girls in need, donated by Zn Pearle Strolz. Vice President Nancy Berame delivered an uplifting closing message of support and solidarity.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to DSWD Regional Field Office 7 for their invaluable partnership in making this meaningful celebration possible, Ms. Evaine Manzano, Center Head and her staff for the warm hospitality.

Together, we celebrate the strength of mothers and the power of compassionate community—because every woman deserves love, respect, and hope for a brighter future.
