ITF Cebu would like to greet each and every youth around the world a Happy International Youth Day. Today we celebrate the enthusiasm, passion, the potential, and power of our young people who helped put colors into our world.

As we all know the youths are the next generation of our world, your voice, ideas, and energy have the power to influence people. Even though we have different races and cultures but we belong to the same planet earth. Youth are the ones who help build the future and a brighter tomorrow.

To our youth who work in the transport sector, especially to our young seafarers may you always have fair winds and the following seas.

Young transport workers keep our world moving – from platform workers and dockers, to aviation, rail, and road transport staff. But too often, they face the biggest challenges in the workplace:

- Insecure contracts
- The rise of AI
- Limited access to training
- Weak representation in leadership structures.

Winning the fight against these challenges requires strong unions – and strong unions need young workers. We will always stand with young workers because we know that is how we win now, and in the future!

The ITF extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives in the ferry fire off the coast of Indonesia.

As search and rescue efforts continue for those still missing, our thoughts are with all the passengers, crew and emergency responders involved in this tragic incident.

We stand with our sister federation IFSMA in its call for stronger protection of merchant seafarers in armed conflict. We have been saying it for months. Seafarers are civilians. Not combatants. Not collateral.

Every strike on a merchant ship is a breach of international humanitarian law, and those responsible must be held to account for it.

Statement from ITF Inspectorate Cebu on the Recent Attacks on Dynacom-Managed Tankers

We strongly condemn the recent attacks on the Dynacom-managed tankers Kavomaleas, Acheloos, and Asia. These attacks put the lives of innocent seafarers at risk while they were simply doing their jobs. Seafarers should never be caught in conflicts or become victims of violence at sea.

We are thankful that all crew members were reported safe. However, these incidents remind us that many seafarers continue to face dangerous conditions while working to keep global trade moving. No one should have to fear for their life just to earn a living.

We call on shipping companies, governments, and the international community to work together to improve the safety and security of seafarers, especially in high-risk areas. Every possible step must be taken to protect civilian ships and prevent similar attacks from happening again.

No job is worth risking a human life. The safety and welfare of seafarers must always come first.

ITF Inspectorate Cebu stands with all seafarers around the world. We continue to support their rights, safety, and well-being and call for peace and respect for international maritime law.

Viva La Virgen!

Last Saturday, July 19, 2026 various groups coming from the maritime sector gathered to welcome the pilgrimage image of Nuestra Señora dela Paz y Buena Viaje de Antipolo at the Port of Cebu City.

The celebration began with a solemn fluvial parade from Lapu-Lapu City to Cebu City, as she was welcomed by different cultural dancers including seafarers together with their respective families.

After the fluvial parade, the image was then transferred at the St. Joseph the Workers Chapel for a holy mass. A representative from Antipolo shared the rich history of the miraculous icon.

May Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage protect all of our seafarers from the dangers and may always have a safe voyage 🛳️⚓.
