This is not goodbye, it’s just “I love you” to take with you until you’re home again. 🫶🏽

Staff Spotlight: Cristy Mae

Ate Cristy Mae joined our team in 2019. She has filled a variety of roles over the years, but she mainly focuses on disbursing and liquidating funds.

“HHCR is one of the prayers God has answered in my life. It is a complete package that helps my spiritual growth, teaches me how to be a good employee, and shows me the importance of serving others, especially the kids. I love everything about HHCR, and I believe God called me to be here.”

Your HHCR family loves you so much, Ate Cristy Mae!

God’s timing is perfect!

Months before the flood at Happy House, a generous church in the US shipped some boxes to the girls filled with donated clothes.

After a long, tiring week for the girls (cleaning the house and throwing out ruined belongings), the boxes showed up on our doorstep and the girls got to pick out some new things!

Thank you, Pastor Rolly and The Hill @ Vallejo!

13 young ladies and 4 staff live at Happy House.

When the flash flood hit two days ago, only 3 girls and 2 staff were at home. They jumped into action and carried as much as they could upstairs. The water rose up to their necks and some glass had shattered into the dirty floodwaters, cutting their feet. Wardrobes and bed frames toppled while the refrigerator and sofas floated around.

We have been in this home for 18 years. As houses have built up around our property, our land has become one of the lowest places in the area. The floods have gotten higher each time. We have land and are in the beginning of a building project so that we can move everyone into a safer home. In the meantime, we plan to rebuild our floodgates to make them stronger and higher.

Tonight we are thankful that everyone is safe and that things can be replaced. We pray for the girls and staff who were impacted. And we also see the bravery in their actions.

This photo was taken as the ladies waited on the roof watching the waters get higher. They knew that their belongings were getting ruined. They were aware of the giant mess that would be waiting for them to clean when the waters receded. And yet, they are smiling!

“Jesus promised his disciples three things–that they would be completely fearless, absurdly happy, and in constant trouble.” ~William Barclay
