The Core Team tasked with steering the review and enhancement of the Water Code of the Province of Cebu convened yesterday with Hon. Stanley Caminero, Member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Cebu and Chairperson of the Committee on Environment.

The meeting marked the start of a collaborative process to revisit and strengthen the Province's water governance framework. Among the key agreements reached was the development and rollout of a survey to gather feedback from and existing water management policies and practices of Cebu local government units. The survey will inform the codification process and ensure that proposed enhancements are responsive to the province's evolving water resource management needs.

LEARNING SESSION ON UNDERSTANDING POVERTY
How is poverty officially defined and measured? How does poverty data factor into planning, targeting, and resource allocation in development investment?

The Central Visayas Regional Basic Sectors Coordinating Council (RBSCC R7) of the National Anti-Poverty Commission aims to strengthen the capacity of targeted civil society and basic sector leaders to engage in poverty reduction governance and the Local Poverty Reduction Action Plan (LPRAP) processes.

Apart from expert lectures from the Philippine Statistics Authority and the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development, this session also anchors discussions on rights-based poverty reduction under the Magna Carta of the Poor.

Kaabag sa Sugbo Foundation seats as member of NAPC's NGO Sectoral Council and steers RBSCC R7.

Coastal communities and artisanal fishers, among the most poor of basic sectors, face growing threats -- from declining fish catch and climate impacts to illegal fishing and restricted access to traditional docking and landing sites. Protecting livelihoods and ensuring food security means protecting our ocean.

As we mark the 28th year since the declaration of the Tañon Strait Protected Seascape, key stakeholders and fisher-leaders come together through the TSPS Collaborative Dialogue to strengthen the protection of the Tañon Strait and push for concrete, coordinated solutions that uphold fishers' rights, coastal access, and food security, while safeguarding one of the country’s most important marine ecosystems.

This is being organized by the Central Visayas Regional Basic Sectors Coordinating Council (RBSCC R7) of the National Anti-Poverty Commission. Kaabag sa Sugbo's network coordinator serves as regional coordinator of RBSCC R7.
