To cultivate a food ecosystem of communities who choose food growing, trading, preparing and consuming practices that nourish the earth and all its inhabitants.
The Communities for Alternative Food Ecosystems Initiative (CAFÉ-I) is a SEC-registered non-stock, non-profit, non-government organization that offers naturally- and organically-grown fresh produce and processed goods. The purpose of CAFÉ-I is to cultivate a food ecosystem of communities that nourishes a healthy and vibrant life for all.
CAFÉ-I is supported by a strong multi-sectoral network of farmers, producers and consumers and has been operational since 2014 through a regular weekly market schedule done in 3 different locations of Cebu.
The CAFÉ-I Center is envisioned to be the hub for sustainable farming workshops and events showcasing healthy lifestyle, organic and environmental farming practices, seed sharing, and other learning discussions with practical applications.
We are embarking on a 3-year Sustainable Farming Development Program whose aspects involve:
a. Farm-to-Market Food Ecosystem Communities and Networks - to partner farmers with institutional customers and stakeholders in providing healthy, quality, and organic produce/products.
b. Farm and Farmer Network Development - to build farmers’ capacity and consistency in supplying the market with produce and products that are delicious, organic and healthy.
c. Organic Seeds Testing, Propagation and Sharing Center - to ensure that farm growers are continuously supported with quality seeds/seedlings, a seed library, nursery, and learning facilities will be established.
d. Demo Farm and Edible Garden Learning Site - to showcase the facilities included in a sustainable farm i.e. organic inputs, vermicast, farm production, post-harvest, water catchment and diversion, and buffer zones. MRFs, etc.
