Join us next week on Thursday, May 7, 9:45 AM at the Performing Arts Hall of UP Cebu for the book launch of 𝙅𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙘𝙤 𝘽𝙤𝙮𝙨 by 𝙏𝙤𝙣 𝘿𝙖𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙖𝙡𝙖.

Published by UP Press under The Philippine Translators Series, this poetry collection explores the world of the barkada, of men navigating the heavy pressures of being “macho”.

The book launch is featured as a plenary session at the 6th DukiTuki UP Cebu Communication Program Research Forum 2026, and will include an author’s talk, a literary reading, a Q&A session, and a book signing. 𝙅𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙘𝙤 𝘽𝙤𝙮𝙨 is Asst. Prof. Ton Daposala’s second book.

Limited copies of the book will be available for purchase at a discounted price.

BE EMPOWERED AND INSPIRED LATER! 🧚‍♀️💫

For our final guest poet, we are honored to present Charmelagne Yu!

A poet, researcher, and educator at Southwestern University PHINMA. Recognized as the 2018 Fictionist of the Year and 2019 Poet of the Year at Cebu Normal University, her work explores the intersection of language and visual artistry. She is the creator of the chap book Post Mortem. Her goal is to advocate for beginners and ensure the writing community is not a more intimidating or scary place than it should be.

Meet our guest speakers for the Tintapok segment from Youth Claim - UP Cebu, exploring women in film and literature! 🎬📖

Ranah Mae Abella is a student leader and feminist youth advocate. Her work centers on creating spaces that amplify women’s voices and lived experiences.

Ranah will present “Liway: When Resistance Wears a Mother’s Face,” based on the film Liway (2018) directed by Kip Oebanda.

Jeahna Harriet Ragasajo currently serves as Secretary General of DAKILA Cebu Collective and continues to advance initiatives on women’s rights and social justice.

Jeahna will discuss “Rewriting Heroism: Babaye Isip Kusog sa Pakipagbisog,” drawing from “In the Skin of a Jihadist: A Young Journalist Enters the ISIS Recruitment Network” (2015) by Anna Erelle & Erin Potter.

From TINTA - UP Cebu, we proudly introduce our two featured poets! ✒️💜

Corena Mae B. Conje is a first-year Political Science student at the University of the Philippines Cebu and has been a passionate writer of poetry since elementary school. Her works often explore the depths of love and emotion, reflecting both personal and universal experiences. As a member of TINTA, she continues to hone her craft and express her voice through words.

Justinne May Laquio is a 19-year-old freshman at the University of the Philippines Cebu, taking up a BA in Political Science. She is originally from Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte. She enjoys writing poetry and fiction as creative outlets for emotion and storytelling.

Meet our guest poets from Bathalad Sugbo! 📝

Jessabele G. Bentazal is from Boljoon, Cebu, and became an official member of Bathalad Sugbo in 2023. She is a published poet and contributing writer for SunStar Superbalita Cebu and Bisaya Magazine. Writing is her remedy for longing, and she dreams of one day inscribing wandering letters across the vastness of space.

Adie Orozco is a teacher and a servant of words. A member of Sunday Club and Bathalad Sugbo, she seeks all the poems scattered across the world, even those hidden in dusty corners.

Meet our third guest poet, Tea Solon! ✍️💌

Hailing from Mabolo, Cebu City, Tea’s visual art, poetry, and translations can be found on her blog “Butung is Layp” and Instagram. Some of her works appear in “Kabisdak”, as well as publications such as SunStar, Superbalita, Bisaya Magasin, and "Dagat ug Kinabuhi." Her English pieces have also been featured in Spillwords, Gobblers by Masticadores, and various haiku anthologies published by Literary Revelations Publishing House and Quillkeepers Press.

She holds a PhD from the University of San Jose-Recoletos and an MA in Literature from the University of San Carlos. She is a member of Akademiyang Bisaya and Women in Literary Arts (WILA) Cebu. Above all, she is a mother, a partner, and a wandering woman of words.

Meet our second guest poet, Jae Mari D. Magdadaro! 🌸📚

A registered psychometrician and Psychology & M.Ed. graduate of University of the Philippines Cebu, Jae is a magbabalak and a fellow of the 31st Cornelio Faigao Writers Workshop, Tagik Landasan 2016, and the 17th Iyas National Writers Workshop. Her works appear in Inday-Inday, Libulan, and The Loch Raven Review.

Jae edited Mga Awit sa Atabay (2021) and co-authored a Scopus-indexed paper on Lumad alternative schools. A founder of Hablon and former Vice President of BATHALAD Sugbo, she was awarded "Labing Masaarong Bag-ong Magsusulat sa Tuig" in 2018 and has served as a panelist and judge in various workshops and contests.
