LUMINA Advisers speak during “Bongga Ka Dai: Stories of Women” during the National Women’s Month Celebration by the Cebu Provincial Government through the Cebu Provincial Youth Development Office.

Atty. Karina Cabahug Kvp Cabahug shared her powerful journey in “Her Journey for Justice: A Woman Lawyer’s Journey,” a story of perseverance, purpose, and rising beyond setbacks. Meanwhile, Atty.Charlene Dasig delivered a compelling primer on the Anti-VAWC Law and the Safe Spaces Act, equipping women with the knowledge to protect their rights and assert their dignity.

More than stories, these were calls to action—reminding every woman that her voice matters, her rights are protected, and her strength is transformative.

LUMINA officers also facilitated consultations with the IBP Cebu City Chapter, extending legal awareness and support directly to the community.

LUMINA is honored to have been presented with a Plaque of Appreciation from the Cebu Provincial Government, a testament to our shared commitment to empowering communities through law, education, and advocacy.

At LUMINA, we do not just advocate—we act, we serve, and we empower.

This is what LUMINA stands for.

THE LAW PUNISHES WHAT CULTURE EXCUSES.

Women of every class or background are vulnerable to systemic discrimination. Worse, society has often diminished this harm by excusing the behavior, tolerating it, and even condoning the objectification and violence that women are subjected to. In 2021 alone, 8400 cases of violence against women were reported in the country. One in every four wives have experienced physical, sexual, or emotional violence from their partner. Every Filipina has a story about personal harassment.

Violence and harassment thrives when it is excused away by a predatory culture, but the law stands firm — violence against women and harassment against all persons are criminal and punishable under the law. The Anti-VAWC Act and Safe Spaces Act protect women from violence and sexual harassment, but you need to know your rights before you can use them.

Across different backgrounds and experiences, one thing remains constant: the courage to keep going.

These women remind us that strength is found in showing up, in choosing excellence despite doubt, and in creating space where there was none before. Their stories are not just personal victories; they are part of a greater movement.

At Lumina, we are a community of lawyers, future lawyers, leaders, and changemakers who stand in solidarity with women who challenge norms, claim their space, and shape the future.

Tag a woman who inspires you and celebrates strength in her own way.

Justice becomes meaningful when it is understood.

We are proud to be part of this collaborative initiative bringing legal services and knowledge closer to the community:

- Free Consultation on VAWC-related cases
- Free Notarization of Basic Documents
- Free Symposium on RA 9262 and RA 11313

As part of this effort, Lumina will lead Primer Explainers on VAWC (RA 9262) and the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313)—breaking down the law into simple, practical, and relatable discussions for the community.

Because empowerment starts with awareness.

Together, we build safer spaces, stronger communities, and informed citizens.
With gratitude to: Cebu Provincial Youth Development Office and IBP - Integrated Bar of the Philippines Cebu City Chapter. 💜💚

Behind LUMINA are women mentors who lead with integrity, resilience, and purpose.

This International Women’s Month, we proudly feature our Lumina Advisers — Atty. Kvp Cabahug, Atty. Darchy Wagas-Estorgio, and Atty. Charlene Dasig — whose journeys as lawyers, educators, and leaders continue to inspire the next generation of law students.

Through their experiences, they remind us that women belong in every room where decisions are made — leading with courage, wisdom, and compassion. Their stories reflect the strength of women who continue to take up space, uplift others, and shape the future of the legal profession.

A community of lawyers, future lawyers, leaders, and changemakers.

This National Women’s Month, we celebrate the women of Gullas Law School who continue to take up space, break glass ceilings, and rewrite the narrative.

Unfortunately, we are reminded why this celebration still matters. Misogyny and the objectification of women remain pervasive, and at times, even defended. But women were never meant to be reduced to outdated societal expectations.

Today, and every day, we honor the talented, resilient, and brilliant women of GLS, alongside the generations who came before them—those who pushed boundaries, opened doors, and ensured they remained open for those who would follow.

To our mothers, sisters, daughters, professors, mentors, and friends: thank you for showing the strength, courage, and beauty of cementing yourself in society.

Take up space. Always.

Here at LUMINA, we firmly believe that the recognition and celebration of women should go far beyond just one month—it should be a constant, meaningful effort. In line with this commitment, and as a way of carrying forward the spirit of Women’s Month, the Gender and Development (GAD) Training Unit of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP), facilitated by LUMINA, recently concluded a special event last April 10, 2025 from 8:30 AM to 4:00PM at the Conference Hall, ABC Building of Cebu City, dedicated to honoring the strength, contributions, and rights of women everywhere.

The morning session deep dove into RA 11313 or otherwise known as The Safe Spaces Act with our very own blooming and brilliant, Atty. Karina Virgina P. Cabahug of KVP Cabahug; Amigo-Escobar & Partners Law Office. Her engaging lecture unpacked the various forms of gender-based harassment and highlighted the importance of empowering urban poor communities to know and assert their rights under the law.

In the afternoon, Atty. Mabini Pelagio-Infiesto of Wagas & Estorgio Law Offices led a workshop titled “Paint Your Advocacy: Standing Against Harassment and Violence Towards Women and Children.” Through art and expression, participants explored how advocacy can be both a personal and collective effort in building safer spaces for women and children.

We, at LUMINA sincerely express our gratitude for having been part of this event. Thank you to everyone who joined us in making this celebration not just an event, but a movement, where advocacy is lived through words, art, and action. To women who hold up half the sky! 💜✨
