CEMVEDCO

CEMVEDCO A cooperative for the vendors of Carbon Market, Cebu City. Cemvedco was formed by consolidating three cooperatives in 2002. All roads lead to Carbon.

The Carbon Market is named for the depot where coal was unloaded from the Cebu Railroad.Another story is that it was named for the "heaps of waste" cinders dumped here in the 19th Century. As of 2009, it was over one hundred years old. In 2000, some vendors created a cooperative to sell their wares, and later two other cooperatives were formed by different units of the market. The Carbon Market Vend

ors Development Cooperative (or Cemvedco) was formed by consolidating the three cooperatives created in 2002. Cemvedco aims to protect and promote Carbon Market and its local vendors. There has always been a lot of threats for Carbon Market's survival such as supermarkets and globalization impacts. Standards become higher every year and its vendors should keep up to these standards because if they won't then they would lose their source of livelihood. If this happens, Cebu would lose one of its great contributors for the city's progress. Not only economically speaking but also when it comes to heritage. If Carbon market ceases to exist then shall the history of Cebuanos. It used to be like that. If a change of perspective happens, then you would know how lucky Cebu is to have Carbon market. And that is the very purpose of this page to promote Carbon Market and its stories.
