From The Philippine National AIDS Council - PNAC Secretariat:

In line with the annual commemoration of the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial (IACM), please find attached the Advisory on the Observance and Conduct of Simultaneous Activities for the 2026 IACM.

This year’s theme, “Light the Legacy: Remember. Advance. Act. Keeping the Light Alive” seeks to remember and honor the pioneers, leaders, advocates, and communities who have contributed to the HIV response through the years, recognize advancements in HIV prevention, treatment, technology, and community-led approaches, and inspire continued action grounded in lessons learned from lived experiences toward a more compassionate, people-centered, and sustainable HIV response.

In support of the nationwide observance, Council Members are encouraged to disseminate this advisory to relevant stakeholders within their areas of jurisdiction to ensure coordinated and collective support and participation in the commemoration.

Editable advocacy and promotional materials may also be accessed through the provided link indicated in the advisory for your reference.

We look forward to your continued support and participation in this meaningful observance.

Thank you very much.

Faith-based organizations (FBOs) play a significant role in HIV prevention by combining behavioral, spiritual, and medical approaches, often utilizing a variation of the ABC model alongside community-based support.

HIV is transmitted through the exchange of specific bodily fluids (blood, semen, vaginal fluids, re**al fluids, breast milk) from an infected person, primarily via three modes: unprotected s*xual contact, sharing of contaminated needles/syringes, and mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding.

1. Sexual Contact: The most common mode is unprotected a**l or vaginal s*x with someone living with HIV.
2. Needle/Syringe Sharing: Using equipment for injecting drugs, tattoos, or piercings that has been contaminated with HIV-infected blood.
3. Perinatal (Mother-to-Child): Transmission can occur during pregnancy, labor, or delivery, as well as through breastfeeding.

Note: HIV is not spread through casual contact like hugging, shaking hands, or sharing toilets. Transmission is impossible if a person with HIV is on effective antiretroviral therapy (ART) and has an undetectable viral load.
