Our Lady, Star of the Sea (Latin: Stella Maris) is a traditional Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It presents Mary as a guiding star of hope who leads the faithful to Christ, especially amid life’s storms.

She is honored under this title as the patroness of sailors, seafarers, fishermen, and coastal communities. The title inspired the ancient hymn Ave Maris Stella (“Hail, Star of the Sea”). Its origin is often linked to an early interpretation of the name Mary/Miriam, possibly rendered from “drop of the sea” (stilla maris) to “star of the sea” (stella maris).

August 18, 2026 || A Blessed Second Day of the Pilgrim Visit of Our Lady, Star of the Sea to maritime offices.

Today, the second day of the Pilgrim Visit of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, was celebrated at the 2GO office at Pier 4. The Stella Maris Chaplain presided over the Holy Mass, which was prayerfully attended by the 2GO personnel, headed by Branch Manager Mr. Jun Cadampog.

Met 4 Filipino crew,the chief officer, 2nd officer on duty and two others. They happily welcome us onboard and they are given 2 mug cups and magazines from Stella Maris Cebu. The Filipino crew are asking the Stella Maris staff a mass onboard their vessel on next voyage here in Cebu.
