What an afternoon!

We had six children join us in today's test session at Purok Villa Lorena Dos in Barangay San Vicente, Liloan, Cebu.

Lingling, Netnet, and Atarah stayed from start to "finish" - now two hours and counting! Gelai and Airus dropped by during the storytelling session. Noah was a bit shy to mingle so he went home with a coloring kit.

We're actually still here to read more stories!

The reading center is in the same structure of the office of the Villa Lorena Dos Homeowners' Association (VLD HOA).
Props to the homeowners and the officers under the leadership of Jay Bastida and Jaylene Gipala for this space where meaningful learning and creative interaction happen!

Thank you to the parents and the volunteers for today!

See you in October!

We've been silent for a long while as we continue to navigate the changes in the seasons of our lives as a group and as individuals.

The good news though? We can always go back to what we love!

And so this Saturday, September 6, we're heading to Purok Villa Lorena Dos (VLD) in Barangay San Vicente, Liloan, Cebu to once again check on their growing reading center!

We will read stories and make art with the children of Purok VLD as we kick off the celebrations this festive BER season!

Taga-asa man mo nga purok sa inyong barangay? Ganahan mo mobisita mi? 😘

We mourn the passing of a literary and literacy advocate, who was instrumental in the birth and existence of the Basadours.

Rosario Chua, known to us as Ma'am Ruth, was the first person we approached when we decided to form a group of volunteer storytellers in 2012.

Ma'am Ruth, then chief librarian of the Cebu City Public Library, showered the Basadours with the crucial support that we needed so we can amplify our collective voice of spreading the love of reading through storytelling. The city library became our headquarters and Ma'am Ruth was our nurturing confidante. She was our trusted adviser and loving cheerleader.

Ma'am Ruth was always surrounded with books and she was generous in guiding us with her feedbacks and suggestions so we can be better as a group and as individuals.

The Basadours was officially launched on February 25, 2012, on the day that the Philippines commemorated the 26th anniversary of EDSA People Power Revolution.

Today, February 26, 2025, just a day after we turned 13 years old, Ma'am Ruth closed this chapter of her life in this mortal world with one last breath.

Our condolences to Sir Rey, Reya, Aying, and the entire Chua family for this profound loss.

Ma'am Ruth, we will miss your warm smile and tender words. We are eternally grateful for your wisdom that has nourished us through the years. We love you and we miss you.
