One year after the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Cebu on September 30, 2025, 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐜., in partnership with 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬, continues to stand with families still rebuilding their lives.

On September 29, 2026, the 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐌𝐏𝐂𝐀) Distribution for 220 of the most vulnerable earthquake-affected families across three parishes:

📍 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐨 𝐝𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐲𝐨𝐥𝐚 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡 – Kawit, Medellin
📍 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡 – Tapilon, Daanbantayan
📍 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐫𝐨 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡 – Maya, Daanbantayan

A total of 220 validated beneficiary families were served. The activity began with the celebration of Holy Mass, followed by an orientation and the distribution of cash assistance, which families may use according to their most urgent needs—including food, medicine, or capital and materials for small livelihood activities.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our host parish priests, Parish Caritas teams, volunteers, and Cebu Caritas staff who worked together to make the distribution organized and meaningful.

Our appreciation goes to 𝐑𝐞𝐯. 𝐅𝐫. 𝐄𝐮𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐨 “𝐉𝐮𝐧” 𝐋𝐨𝐳𝐚𝐝𝐚 𝐀𝐥𝐦𝐚𝐳𝐨𝐥 𝐈𝐈 of Kawit, 𝐑𝐞𝐯. 𝐅𝐫. 𝐎𝐧𝐢𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐨 of Tapilon, and 𝐑𝐞𝐯. 𝐅𝐫. 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨 of Maya, for welcoming the families and supporting the activity.

The Holy Masses were also celebrated by 𝐑𝐞𝐯. 𝐅𝐫. 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐱 𝐊. 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐚 𝐉𝐫., Executive Director, and 𝐑𝐞𝐯. 𝐅𝐫. 𝐉𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐲 𝐓𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧, Program Director, of Cebu Caritas Inc., together with the respective parish priests.

This assistance is made possible through the solidarity of the Caritas network and Caritas Internationalis, coursed through Caritas Philippines, in partnership with Cebu Caritas Inc.

Together, we continue to uplift the lives and dignity of the anawim—walking with communities not only in times of crisis, but throughout their journey toward recovery and resilience.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, AAU! | On September 30, 2025, Most Rev. Alberto “Abet” Uy was installed as the 5th Metropolitan Archbishop of Cebu, beginning a new chapter of shepherding the Archdiocese.

A year later, the good Archbishop has journeyed to many parishes across the Archdiocese, encountered and accompanied the clergy and faithful, and launched and led various initiatives and programs as the local Church continues its journey toward 2034 and beyond.

Through these journeys, encounters, and efforts, he continues to accompany the Church of Cebu with a spirit of service, communion, and mission.

As he marks his first anniversary as Archbishop of Cebu, we continue to pray that God, through the loving mantle and intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, may grant him good health, strength, joy, and steadfast dedication as he faithfully leads God’s flock.

May his ministry continue to bear fruit for the people of God and for the Church of Cebu.

TABOGON, CEBU — In a milestone celebration of community resilience and partnership, the REACT CEBU Project Team officially handed over the initially completed 28 Transitional Core Shelters to beneficiaries across the Barangays of San Vicente, Somosa, and Kal-anan yesterday, September 25, 2026.

The festive turnover ceremony, held at the Brgy. Somosa Barangay Gym, brought together local families, community leaders, and humanitarian partners to mark a fresh chapter of hope.

The day's events unfolded through a deeply meaningful program:
* Simultaneous House Blessings: Rev. Fr. Alex K. Cola Jr., Rev. Fr. Jimmy M. Tolentin, Rev. Fr. W***y Castillo, and Rev. Fr. Bernald Augustines led the spiritual house blessings across all three barangays.
* Opening Liturgy and Lunch: A holy mass officially commenced the main event, followed by a communal salo-salo (lunch) shared among all attendees.
* Partnership Program: A heartfelt program highlighted messages of gratitude, celebrating the enduring collaboration between Cebu Caritas Inc., Caritas Germany, and local stakeholders in Tabogon.

"The activity served as a powerful testament to partnership and shared resilience, celebrating not just new roofs over heads, but renewed dignity and hope for the beneficiaries."

The momentous day carried an extra layer of joy as Cebu Caritas Inc. (CCI) Executive Director Rev. Fr. Alex Cola Jr. celebrated his birthday. Choosing to spend his special day with the community, he reinforced the project's core mission of inspiring strength and endurance in the face of life's hurdles.

The successful event was made possible through the unified presence of:

* Representatives from the Barangay Councils of the four partner barangays
* Key figures from the Tabogon Local Government Unit (LGU), representing the Offices of the Vice Mayor, DILG, and MDRRMO

The mission of accompaniment continues as 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐜., together with the 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬 of 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐋𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡, extended assistance to local drivers in Punta Princesa, Cebu City, on September 23, 2026.

A total of 100 “𝐁𝐚𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞” were distributed to taxi, jeepney, and motorcycle drivers as a simple yet meaningful form of support amid the increasing cost of fuel and daily operating expenses.

The distribution was made possible through the collaboration of the Parish Caritas Coordinator of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and Parish Caritas of Alliance of Two Hearts’ volunteers, together with the Cebu Caritas Inc. staff and 𝐑𝐞𝐯. 𝐅𝐫. 𝐉𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐲 𝐌. 𝐓𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧, Program Director of Cebu Caritas Inc..

Through initiatives like this, Cebu Caritas and Parish Caritas continue to accompany communities—not only by responding to immediate needs, but also by standing alongside those whose livelihoods are affected by the rising cost of living.

The spirit of sharing continues as𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐜. brought “𝐁𝐚𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞” to local habal-habal, jeepney, and taxi drivers along Pelaez Street, beside the University of San Carlos, Cebu City, on September 23, 2026.

Through the coordination of the Parish Caritas of 𝐒𝐭𝐨. 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡, Cebu Caritas Inc. staff and volunteers personally distributed the relief packs to drivers in the area. Each “Bag of Love” contained 5 kilos of rice and 5 pieces of canned goods to provide immediate support amid rising fuel prices and increasing daily expenses.

UC Criminology interns who were on duty in the area also joined and assisted in the distribution, extending an extra hand of service to the beneficiaries.

The simple gesture was met with heartfelt gratitude from the drivers, many of whom shared that the assistance would be a meaningful help to their families during these challenging times.

In response to the appeal of 𝐌𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐯. 𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐨 𝐒. 𝐔𝐲, 𝐃.𝐃., Archbishop of Cebu, Cebu Caritas Inc. extended assistance to jeepney, taxi, and habal-habal drivers and their families who are experiencing difficulties and loss of income.

A total of 100 “𝐁𝐚𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞” were distributed along V. Rama Avenue, each containing 5 kilos of rice and 5 pieces of canned goods, as a simple expression of solidarity and care for our brothers and sisters in the transport sector.

This initiative was carried out together with the Cebu Caritas staff and Parish Caritas volunteers from the 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡, 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐰𝐚.

As Archbishop Abet reminded us:

“Bear one another’s burdens.” (Galatians 6:2)

“In difficult times, let us not allow anyone to struggle alone. When one suffers, let us come together and help. This is what it means to be a Christian community.”

𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐜. successfully conducted the 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 (𝐘𝐒𝐋𝐄𝐏) Values Formation Activity on September 20, 2026, bringing our scholars together for a meaningful day of reflection, prayer, and discovering God’s purpose in their lives.

The formation sessions were guided by our dedicated formators:

𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐨 – Former Scholar Formator, who facilitated Cycle 1, Modules 3 & 4: “I Got Talents” and “God’s Purpose in My Talents,” encouraging scholars to recognize their God-given gifts and use them with purpose.

𝐀𝐥𝐣𝐡𝐮𝐧 𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐬 𝐁𝐞ñ𝐚𝐫, 𝐋𝐏𝐓 – Research and Development Director, Cebu Caritas Inc., who facilitated Cycle 4, Modules 1 & 2: “Keeping in Touch in Prayer” and “Listening Through His Word,” deepening the scholars’ understanding of prayer and listening to God through His Word.

The activity culminated in a Holy Mass celebrated by 𝐑𝐞𝐯. 𝐅𝐫. 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐱 𝐊. 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐚, 𝐉𝐫., 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐜., gathering everyone in gratitude, faith, and prayer.
