In celebration of the 79th City Charter Day, the Cebu City Government with the Cebuano Cinema Development Council launches the first ever 79 Oras Salidagan Sugbo 2016: The Don Vicente Rama Movie Challenge. A combine term from the words “salida” and “dagan”, Salidagan is a film run or film race; an intense filmmaking competition where participants have 79 hours to write, shoot and edit their short,
5-minute movies. These 5-minute movies are required to use pre-selected passages from the works of Don Vicente Rama as the films' moral, theme or inspiration. Don Vicente Rama (1887 to 1956) was a writer, journalist, editor, publisher, the first Cebuano to serve as Mayor of Cebu City (1938 to 1940), a congressman and a senator. Today, he is recognized as the "Father of the Charter" of the city of Cebu for having sponsored the Commonwealth Act No. 58 in the national legislature in 1936. Open to all, those who wish to enter the Salidagan must register during the Salidagan Primer or Launch this February 18, 9AM at the City Social Hall where registered participants will receive their kits containing the select passages by Don Vicente Rama to be used for this film competition as well as the competition rules and guidelines they must comply with to be considered as official entries. The deadline of submission is set for February 22, 79 hours after the event launch. Official entries will vie for the top 3 places, with awards and cash prizes. A special award that commemorates the centennial of the Ramas' public service record will also be given to a deserving entry. The winning films will also be screened publicly for the City’s celebration of the Charter Day this February 24. Salidagan Sugbo 2016 is a project spearheaded by the Cebuano Cinema Development Council in cooperation with the Public Information Office, Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission, Cine Oriente with the support of the City Government.
