The University of the Philippines Cebu staged its Day of Indignation this morning, September 15, with students, faculty, administrative staff, REPS, alumni, and retirees in attendance.
The program began with simultaneous assemblies per college and federation, followed by a march to the Oblation for the veiling of the statue in black cloth. Chants were raised to signal the community’s unified stand.
The march then continued to Gorordo Avenue, where participants lined the sidewalks along the campus gates and voiced their protest. Statements were delivered by representatives from the academic and workers’ union, the student body, and the University Council. Cultural performances, including UP Serenata and Budoy Marabiles with “Kawatan”, were also part of the program.
Across all sectors, the call was clear: to seek accountability and to oppose the normalization of corruption in government. The indignation denounced ghost flood-control projects funded by public money and emphasized how such practices rob communities of resources for education, housing, and health, while undermining institutions meant to serve the people.
