The Carolinian Political Science Society (CPSS) officially held its first General Assembly for Academic Year 2026โ2027 on August 29, 2026, at the Fr. Albert van Gansewinkel Hall, University of San Carlos (USC) - Downtown Campus, with the theme โGoinโ PoScLiLit.โ
CPSS President, Hon. Maria Carla May Ramas formally called the assembly to order and delivered the opening remarks, officially welcoming CPSS members for the academic year.
Before proceeding with the formalities, an icebreaker was held to ease the atmosphere. Several CPSS members were selected from the crowd to participate in a short game of โHep Hep Hooray.โ The CPSS Ensemble then delivered a performance that combined humour and electrifying energy to engage the audience.
Officer-in-Charge Department Chair, Owen de la Victoria, LPT, MAPA, JD, offered his welcoming remarks, reiterating the responsibilities of the CPSS under the USC Department of Political Science. He also highlighted the activities and initiatives the Society can expect for the remainder of the academic year.
Editor-in-Chief of SCIRE Publication, Mx. Lynelle Valere Canson, introduced SCIRE as the official publication of the USC Department of Political Science. In the presentation, Mx. Canson shared some of the publicationโs accomplishments and past activities, provided an overview of its respective departments, and presented opportunities for students to actively participate and contribute.
Following this, CPSS Ensemble Chief Executive Officer, Mx. Marianette Amora, encouraged students to explore and showcase their talents in writing, dancing, singing, and the performing arts through the various instrumentalities under the CPSS Ensemble. The CPSS Commission on Accountability and CPSS Electoral Commission likewise presented their respective commissions, highlighting their principles, duties, and responsibilities in upholding the Societyโs democratic processes.
Acting Governor of the Leaders of Politics for Service (LPS), Hon. Noella Mae Jordan, elaborated on the activities and accomplishments of the academic track, emphasizing its motto, โSteering Good Governance, Producing Genuine Reforms.โ Meanwhile, representing on behalf of the Carolinian Circle of Young Diplomats (CCYD), Hon. Cedric Joel Rosales presented the trackโs past projects and initiatives.
The orientation then proceeded to the Finance Committeeโs Third Budget Hearing, where matters concerning the CPSS membership fees were discussed. This was followed by an Open Forum, which also served as an opportunity to formally introduce some of the members of the CPSS Council. Students were given the floor to raise their concerns, especially regarding CPSS finances and how issues from the previous academic year could affect this academic yearโs activities.
The students were also introduced to various opportunities to participate in extracurricular organizations within and outside the Society, such as the School of Law and Governance (SLG) Flag Football Team Silverbacks and the USC Council and Development Center (CDC).
The Complaints and Grievance Desk, spearheaded by the Rights & Welfare Committee, was also formally introduced, providing students with information on avenues available for raising concerns and addressing matters involving their well-being.
Moreover, the Council unveiled its official merchandise. Nearing the end of the assembly, the audience was surprised with the announcement of the upcoming 2026 Acquaintance Party โPOLSAYPALOOZA.โ
Closing remarks by CPSS Vice President, Hon. Francis Vincent Dosdos, concluded the assembly, once again reminding the Society of the significance of a meaningful dynamic between the Council and its members, as they work toward the betterment of the Society through transparency, accountability, and good governance.
