The 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘝𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘴 𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘙𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘋𝘦𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘊𝘶𝘱 2025 became more than just another tournament for the CNU Debate League—it became the last debate event we shared with our beloved Organization Adviser and Coach, 𝗦𝗶𝗿 𝗨𝗻.

Throughout the competition, he stood beside us with the same unwavering support and encouragement that defined his mentorship. In every round and every moment of preparation, he reminded us that debate is not only about winning arguments, but about pursuing truth, nurturing courage, and amplifying voices that matter.

Today, as our league moves forward cheering for a new chapter, we do so while carrying with us the lessons, guidance, and inspiration he generously shared. His passion for discourse and his belief in our debaters will always remain part of who we are.

Sir Un may no longer stand with us in the debate chamber, but his voice lives on in every argument we build and every stage we step on.

With pride and admiration, CNU-DL extends its warmest congratulations to our competing debaters for their remarkable participation in the 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘆𝗮𝘀 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝗽 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱. Through rigorous rounds of argumentation and dialogue, they demonstrated not only intellectual sharpness and eloquence but also a deep commitment to engaging with the pressing human rights issues that shape our society today.

Organized by the 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙣 𝙃𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙍𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 – 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙑𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙮𝙖𝙨 (𝘾𝙃𝙍 𝙑𝙄𝙄) as part of the 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙃𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙍𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙘𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙒𝙚𝙚𝙠 (𝘿𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧 4–10) celebration, the tournament gathered 28 𝘥𝘦𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘯 to exchange ideas and advocate for justice through the 𝘼𝙨𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙎𝙩𝙮𝙡𝙚 format. The preliminary rounds were held on December 6–7 at the University of San Carlos – City Campus, while the culminating final round and closing program took place on December 10 at Rigney Hall, University of San Carlos – Talamban Campus, in line with the global observance of International Human Rights Day, commemorating the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

By stepping into this platform, our debaters did more than compete, they joined a collective call to uphold dignity, accountability, and the protection of fundamental freedoms. Their participation reflects the enduring role of discourse in shaping a society that values justice, equality, and human rights for all.

We also proudly recognize 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗮 for being awarded 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿, a testament to his exceptional reasoning, eloquence, and commanding presence in the debate chamber. Your achievement reflects the very spirit of discourse that our league continues to champion.

The 𝗖𝗲𝗯𝘂 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 - 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗲 (𝗖𝗡𝗨-𝗗𝗟) sends its warmest congratulations to our very own member, 𝗠𝗿. Under the expert guidance of their thesis adviser, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗝𝗮𝘆 𝗣𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗹, Director for RITBPB, the team will conduct the study titled: “𝙄𝙣 𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙤 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙫𝙞𝙫𝙤 𝘼𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙝𝙮𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙡𝙮𝙘𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙘 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙏𝙪𝙗𝙖-𝙩𝙪𝙗𝙖 (𝙅𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙝𝙖 𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙘𝙖𝙨 𝙇.) 𝙇𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙭 𝙞𝙣 𝙏𝙮𝙥𝙚 2 𝘿𝙞𝙖𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙈𝙞𝙘𝙚.”

While Clint is a formidable force in the halls of debate, we are thrilled to see him apply that same critical rigor and passion to the field of experimental biology alongside such a talented group of peers. It is with our deepest sympathy that we announce the passing of our Debate Coach and Debate Adviser, Sir James Un. He was an amazing debater that extended his unwavering love and dedication to empower and inspire his debaters. He undeniably remained steadfast in mentoring and guiding the students with dedication and compassion. We truly appreciate all of your hard work to nurture the skills and talents of your students and for bringing the best out of them.

He was a lot more than just an adviser and coach for the organization. Despite his condition, he truly did his best to make sure that every member felt his passion for debating. Sir Un willingly fed his debaters and walked distances that felt too long for him amidst the pain he felt in his feet, just so he could see and make our debaters feel supported. In those meagre moments, he taught us more than debate knowledge. With every little moment and experience we shared with him, he taught us to enjoy the pressure of debate, to find joy in the smallest improvements, and to rise up from every loss. He taught us to be stubbornly brave and dedicated to every dream we had.

Debate League is the organization that it is today because not only of the guidance Sir James Un provided, but of the home that many of the student debaters found within the realms of his passion for debate. The league stands in our shared love for discourse because Sir Un paved that path of fervor and dedication that probably nobody could duplicate. His legacy will continue to live on in every argument, to always stand our ground, speak our truth, and fight for what we believe.

A recent earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 hit Cebu. Since then, multiple aftershocks and devastating incidents have followed.
