[PUBLIC SAFETY ADVISORY: PROTECTIVE MEASURES AGAINST ASHFALL]

In light of the moderate explosive eruption of Mt. Kanlaon earlier today, July 9, 2026, communities downwind and in neighboring regions are strongly advised to take proactive health and safety precautions due to ashfall and suspended fine particulate matter.

To protect your health and respiratory system, please adhere to the following safety guidelines:

1. Wear Protective Masks: When going outdoors, please wear an appropriate face mask. High-efficiency masks such as N95 or KN95 are highly recommended to effectively filter out fine volcanic ash particles. Standard surgical masks or clean cloth masks can be used as temporary alternatives if specialized masks are unavailable.

2. Protect Your Eyes: Volcanic ash is abrasive and can cause severe eye irritation. Wear protective glasses or goggles instead of contact lenses if you must step outside.

3. Stay Indoors When Possible: Keep doors and windows firmly closed to prevent ash from entering your home or workspace. Avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure, particularly for individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions such as asthma, COPD, or allergies, as well as children and the elderly.

4. Ensure Food and Water Safety: Secure and cover all food containers and water sources to prevent contamination from fine ash debris. Thoroughly wash any homegrown fruits or vegetables before consumption.

5. Stay Informed: Regularly monitor updates from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) and your local government units (LGUs) for the latest official advisories, containment updates, and safety directives.

Your safety remains the utmost priority. Let us remain vigilant, prepared, and cooperative during this time.

PRAYER FOR GOOD FRIDAY

On this solemn Good Friday, we gather in silence and reverence to remember the boundless love of Jesus Christ, who gave His life for our salvation. As we stand at the foot of the Cross, we are invited to reflect on His suffering, to acknowledge our need for His mercy, and to offer our hearts in gratitude for His sacrifice. With humility and trust, let us now turn to God in prayer.

Almighty God, we remember today the suffering and death of Your Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross. We thank You for His ultimate sacrifice for our redemption, and for the gift of eternal life through His resurrection. Forgive us our sins and grant us the grace to live lives that reflect Your love and compassion. Help us to carry our crosses with grace and joy, knowing that through Your Son, we are not alone in our suffering. We ask this in Jesus's name. Amen.
