‎On this vibrant Wednesday morning, June 17, 2026, the Future English Educators of Samar State University – College of Education, together with the Dean, Dr. Laura B. Boller, and Student Teaching Supervisor, Prof. Manilyn Serpajuan-Sablan, safely arrived at the University of the Philippines Tacloban, in Tacloban City to participate in Pagsaribo han Panuratan 2026: National Youth Literary Festival.

‎Organized by the Division of Humanities of the University of the Philippines Tacloban College in partnership with the National Commission on Culture and the Arts, the festival stands as a premier gathering of writers, scholars, educators, and students committed to the celebration and advancement of Philippine literary arts.
‎
‎Recognizing the vital role of literature in language education, the Future English Educators were selected to attend the festival as representatives of the College of Education. Their participation provides an invaluable opportunity to engage with contemporary literary discourse, deepen their appreciation of Philippine literatures and languages, and gain insights from distinguished writers, researchers, and cultural advocates from across the country.

‎The three-day festival, running from June 17 to 19, 2026, features lectures, workshops, performances, and book fairs that promote learning, creative expression, and cultural exchange. As aspiring educators, the participants are expected to carry forward the knowledge and experiences gained from the festival into their future classrooms, fostering a greater appreciation for literature among the next generation of learners.

Today, June 12, 2026, we stand in pride as we commemorate the 128th anniversary of Philippine Independence. It is the dawn that breaks through centuries of darkness, the song that echoes in every Filipino soul, and the banner that waves with dignity across generations. It is pride woven into our identity, reminding us that freedom is both a triumph and a trust.

The journey of Philippine Independence began on June 12, 1898, when General Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed our sovereignty in Kawit, Cavite. The unfurling of the flag was more than a symbol—it was the sunrise after a long night, a flame that pierced the darkness of colonial rule. That day, the anthem “𝘓𝘶𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘏𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨” echoed like a heartbeat of hope, reminding every Filipino that liberty had finally taken root.

Yet, freedom was not handed easily; it was carved through sacrifice, like steel forged in fire. Wars, trials, and struggles tested the nation, but the spirit of the Filipino endured—resilient as bamboo, unyielding as stone. Independence became a living metaphor: chains turned into wings, silence into song, and oppression into courage.

As we honor this day, let us embody the character of our heroes—bold in conviction, united in purpose, and steadfast in hope. Independence is not only remembered; it is lived.

The SSU University Student Council, together with the Student Organizations of Samar State University, is extending help to the families and residents affected by the fire incident that occurred earlier today in Brgy. 3, Pier 2, Catbalogan City.

Many families have lost their homes and belongings, and some of our fellow students have also been directly affected by this tragedy. In this difficult time, we are accepting both monetary and in-kind donations to help provide immediate assistance and support to those in need.

Every donation, big or small, can go a long way in helping affected families and community members recover and rebuild.
