Catbalogan National Comprehensive High School commemorates 2025 National Women's Month, celebrating women's contributions across all sectors. The theme, "Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas," highlights the vital role of women in building a brighter future for the Philippines. This vibrant design showcases the diverse experiences and achievements of Filipino women, reminding us that they are more than just women; they are forces of nature, shaping communities and driving progress. Babae at hindi basta babae lang—women are so much more than simply women. Let's recognize and empower them throughout March 1-31, 2025.💜

𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗘𝘀𝗴𝘂𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮 𝗙𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗮 (First Filipina and Catbaloganon to serve as School Principal of Samar High School now Samar National School)

Born in the town of Catbalogan in the early 1900s to Don Lorenzo Esguerra and Doña Petrona Singzon. She was married to Judge Juan Figueroa.

In history, she became the first Filipina and Catbaloganon, and the longest to serve as a school principal of Samar High School (now Samar National School) from 1957 to 1977.

During her stint as the school principal, culture and the arts were given importance. Among these were the operettas, theatrical, stage plays, folkdances, and local zarzuelas.

A teacher, musician, artist, and a lay religious leader who was also one of the members of the Cantoras de San Bartolome in the parish.

𝗗𝗼ñ𝗮 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘇𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼 (First Maestra Municipal of Catbalogan during Spanish Times)

Born during the Spanish period in Catbalogan. She served as the first Maestra Municipal of the town and taught at the Escuela Municipal together with the renowned maestro, Don Leocadio Cinco.

Together with Maestro Cadio, they taught the native children of the town the ‘Caton’ and the Doctrina Cristiana. Thus, they pioneered primary education in Catbalogan.

She married Don Pablo Cinco, one of the early Presidente Municipal of Catbalogan. She also became the first Hermana Mayor of the fiesta of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary in Ubanon.

𝗗𝗼ñ𝗮 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗷𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝘇𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗲 (Pioneered the Social Service and Maternal Healthcare in Catbalogan)

She is noted in the history of Catbalogan in the social service field. Born during the early part of the 1800s and died in the 1930s before the Second World War. She pioneered maternal healthcare for the women of the town as part of her social responsibility being the wife and the first lady of Don Leon Arteche, the Gobernadorcillo of the town in 1893 & 1897.

It was only in 1922 that the Centro Puericultura de Catbalogan was formally established.

𝘿𝙄𝘿 𝙔𝙊𝙐 𝙆𝙉𝙊𝙒?

Ma'am Ofelia F. Diocton has been in the service for 38 years as a teacher at Catbalogan National Comprehensive High School, which was formerly known as the Regional School of Fisheries.
Ma'am Ofel, who is fondly called "Moyang" to those close to her, was born on March 7, 1961. As a MAPEH teacher, she has been active in training and honing talented students in the field of dancing, which is her expertise.

She was a theater performer (in the Zarzuela genre) at St. Mary's College of Catbalogan (formerly Sacred Heart College of Catbalogan City), where she taught for several years. She demonstrated artistic excellence and influenced her students in so many ways. Her potential and unwavering dedication as an educator have been of great help to the school. As sports and cultural coordinator of CNCHS for years, her performance is undoubtedly commendable! To you, Ma'am Ofel, we would like to let you know that our hearts are filled with gratitude for serving the school and the whole community. The sound of your whistle, which used to catch our attention, with your soft yet firm voice that commands respect and your hands that sway as you lead the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, and your sporty yet classy figure will forever be etched in our minds as you teach us how to dance to the music of life. Thank you, Mam, and thank you, "Snow White" of CNCHS!
