COMMUNITY POWER 🌱
“These kinds of initiatives on a local level are very important and we want this to expand sa mas malawak pang communities para magkaroon tayo ng access to clean and sustainable energy.” — Jordan Jawo Jayme, 350 Pilipinas
Across campuses and barangays, young Filipinos are showing that climate action can begin with solutions communities can build, manage, and share.
At PUP Sta. Maria in Bulacan, students and partners from 350 Pilipinas developed Watt-A-Ride—a mobile solar-powered charging station that provides free, off-grid energy for students and nearby communities.
Designed for both daily use and emergencies, the unit can be transported through electric trikes or bikes and used during power outages, school suspensions, and calamities.
The project builds on other student-assembled solar charging stations developed across PUP campuses, showing how youth-led engineering can turn clean energy into practical support for learners.
In Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City, the Reskyusi Food Basket Program transforms surplus produce from public markets into food baskets for families in need.
More than 80 youth volunteers help rescue usable food, while scraps that can no longer be consumed are processed through composting and vermicomposting. The resulting vermicast supports urban farmers and community gardens.
These initiatives show that environmental stewardship is not only about awareness.
It is about building systems that reduce waste, respond to community needs, provide clean energy, and help people prepare for the future.
From rescued food to solar-powered charging stations, young people are proving that local solutions can create real change.
