"By failing to prepare, you're preparing to fail." โ€“ Benjamin Franklin

๐——๐—ฎ๐˜† ๐Ÿฏ (Nov. 28, 2025) The third and last day of the training brought an exciting rappelling activity. The said activity started with a lecture from Sir Jose Ivan Daga, the resource speaker, about rappelling and the basic equipment for rappelling and also the safety protocols in conducting such activity. He also ensures that all the equipment to be used in the training is all in good condition to assure the students about their safety. Afterwards Sir Charlei A. Ripalda demonstrated how to make a simple sit harness using ropes, and he discussed the safety protocols in conducting the activity. After the lecture, the participants proceed to the rappelling wall. Before the activity commences, it starts with a short prayer and then stretching exercises before they proceed to the activity, allowing students to experience controlled descent techniques vital in rescue operations. The participants demonstrated the standard rappel, which is the most basic descending technique used in emergencies. After the noon break the activity continued, and some of the students performed the more advanced descent technique, the Australian rappel, and Sir Daga demonstrated how to carry and descend with the victim. After the demo by Sir Ivan, one of the participants tried the technique while descending with the victim. The training concluded with the giving of the plaque of appreciation to the resource speaker for sharing their valuable knowledge with the participants and a closing message from the campus nurse, Ma'am Bonita Shigella Cotoner, RN, MAN.

The 3-day training was full of learning and experience that can't be compared and knowledge to be shared. Sir Ripalda reminded the participants of the need for constant practice, especially in this field. He encouraged them that the training should not end there; they must keep learning and practicing to improve their skills as a life saver.

"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." โ€“ Benjamin Franklin

๐——๐—ฎ๐˜† ๐Ÿฎ (Nov. 27, 2025) commenced with the presence of Sir Charlie A. Ripalda, EMT, MM, focused on real-world application of the bandaging techniques through a practical exercise. The participants performed arm slings and top-of-the-head and back-of-the-head injuries using triangular bandages. The purpose of this practical exercise is to test the skills of participants and to give them mastery of the bandaging techniques when they encounter such scenarios in the real-world setting. Sir Ripalda always emphasizes the importance of practical exercises like this because even in his 23 years in service as a responder, he admitted that sometimes he made mistakes. Afterward, the training continued with a lecture on proper carries and techniques for moving a victim. In his lecture, the participants learned how to move a patient from one place to another using techniques such as the one-man carry and the three-man carry. After the discussion on carries, the participants demonstrated the different types of carry. After the practical exercises of the student on types of caries, the training continued with the introduction to Basic Life Support (BLS) to use the remaining time before lunch. During the afternoon session the lecture continued; the resource speaker discussed the different types of situations that need CPR. The discussion continues on the new guidelines for doing CPR. After the lecture, the students proceed to perform the CPR using the new guidelines for doing CPR for adults. Afterwards, the lecture continues about the Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) and what kind of life-saving techniques you will use as a first aider when you encounter that kind of emergency. Basic Life Support (BLS) session, strengthening the traineesโ€™ competence and confidence in life-saving procedures.

Emergency preparedness tips: earthquakes
Ano ang gagawin before, during and after an earthquake?
