𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐍 𝐂𝐀𝐋𝐋 | 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲, 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞

As the Memorandum of Understanding Ceremonial Signing cm Eco-Innovators 2.0 Activity at Magalalag East, Enrile, officially concludes, the true significance of the undertaking lies not in its closing program, but in the beginning of a shared commitment.

Having weathered a threatening typhoon Kiyapo on Friday, July 24, 2026, the collaboration between Cagayan State University and the Local Government Unit of Enrile did not waiver at all. It flourished instead. From activities such as:

Session 1: Soil and Water Analysis
Session 2: Oyster Mushroom Culture and Hydroponics
Session 3: Food Preservation Techniques
Session 4: Circular Economy, Basic Bookkeeping, and Taxation
Session 5: Sports Clinic
Session 6: Holistic Emergency Care: Integrating Basic Life Support and Psychological First Aid
Session 7: Energy Conservation at Home and in the Community
Session 8: Citizen Empowerment: Access to Food Rights and Government Services
Session 9: Waste Segregation
Workshop: Community Eco-Innovation Action Planning

These activities—bound by partnership and driven by service—enable CSU, under the directive of Project Leader Prof. Madel Tanguilan, and the LGU Enrile to move forward in advancing Project A.L.A.G.A., transforming collaboration into concrete action and aspirations into sustainable realities for the communities they serve.

And so, the program may have ended, but the mission has only just begun. This is Eco-Innovators 2.0. This is Project A.L.A.G.A.

Despite the threat of Typhoon Kiyapo this Friday morning, heavy rains did not stop the commitment of Cagayan State University to push forward with the formalization of a collaborative initiative:

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING CEREMONIAL SIGNING CUM ECO-INNOVATORS 2.0 ACTIVITY

Beyond the ink that seals a memorandum lies a promise to create a lasting impact—a commitment embodied through the MOU Ceremonial Signing cm Eco-Innovators 2.0 Activity in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Enrile at Magalalag West, Enrile, Cagayan, today, July 24, 2026.

Centered on collaboration, innovation, and environmentally conscious, self-sustaining initiatives, this undertaking paves the way for the University's multidisciplinary extension programs to empower communities by advancing public health, disaster preparedness, green livelihood, adaptive communities, and, above all, sustainable development aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—beginning with implementation in the locality.

—𝚊𝚕𝚕 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚒𝚜 𝚑𝚊𝚙𝚙𝚎𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊𝚝 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚖𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚗𝚝.

Following the ceremonial signing, the implementation of Project A.L.A.G.A. is expected to commence through the Eco-Innovators 2.0 Activity.

𝑬𝒄𝒐-𝑰𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒔: 𝑺𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆-𝑫𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝑺𝒐𝒍𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝑺𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 🌱

Driven by its commitment to community engagement and sustainable development, Cagayan State University – Carig Campus successfully conducted the "Eco-Innovators: Science-Driven Solutions for a Sustainable Community" through the Eco-Innovators SustainaTech: Growing, Recycling, and Reimagining Communities initiative on December 11, 2025.

Held in the communities of 𝑴𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒈 𝑾𝒆𝒔𝒕, 𝑴𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒈 𝑬𝒂𝒔𝒕, and 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒂, 𝑬𝒏𝒓𝒊𝒍𝒆, 𝑪𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒚𝒂𝒏, the extension project brought together faculty members from the 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑺𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒔 (𝑪𝑵𝑺𝑴), 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑷𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒊𝒄 𝑨𝒅𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 (𝑪𝑷𝑨𝑫), and 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑯𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒐𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝑺𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔 (𝑪𝑯𝑺𝑺) to deliver meaningful learning sessions on values orientation, work ethics, effective meeting documentation, the circular economy, hydroponics, waste segregation and waste mapping, and energy conservation.

Participants gained practical knowledge on proper waste segregation and waste mapping, emphasizing recycling, reuse, and identifying waste problem areas to support better waste management and cleaner communities.

They also learned simple yet effective energy conservation practices, including the use of energy-efficient lighting, switching off and unplugging appliances when not in use, and maximizing the efficient use of household equipment to reduce electricity consumption and promote environmental sustainability.

The initiative highlighted CSU-Carig's dedication to transforming knowledge into action by empowering communities with science-driven solutions while strengthening partnerships that foster innovation, resilience, and sustainable development.

Together, we continue to cultivate communities that are informed, empowered, and committed to building a greener and more sustainable future. 🌿

The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM) successfully concluded its 𝐷𝑖𝑠𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑅𝑖𝑠𝑘 𝑅𝑒𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑀𝑎𝑛𝑎𝑔𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡, 𝐵𝑎𝑠𝑖𝑐 𝐿𝑖𝑓𝑒 𝑆𝑢𝑝𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡, 𝐹𝑖𝑟𝑠𝑡 𝐴𝑖𝑑, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑊𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑆𝑜𝑖𝑙 𝐴𝑛𝑎𝑙𝑦𝑠𝑖𝑠 𝑇𝑟𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑆𝑒𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑟 𝑐𝑢𝑚 𝑇𝑟𝑒𝑒 𝑃𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐴𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑡𝑦 held in Barangay Linao Norte on July 17, 2026.

Spearheaded by Prof. Crizaldy P. Binarao, MS, CNSM Dean, together with Dr. Rachel D. Biag, Head of the extension project "Kaalamang Siyentipiko, Magliligtas Sa Iyo," Prof. Emely Agatep, CNSM Extension Coordinator, and the entire CNSM faculty, the activity brought together experts and community members to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience through science-based learning, hands-on training, and a tree-planting activity.

The event commenced with a tree-planting activity, highlighting the importance of environmental conservation as a proactive approach to disaster risk reduction. By planting trees, participants demonstrated that disaster prevention goes beyond awareness—it requires meaningful action. Indeed, even the smallest acts of care for nature can create a lasting impact for future generations.

A significant highlight of the event was the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing between the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM), represented by Dean Binarao, and the Barangay Local Government Unit of Barangay Linao Norte, represented by the Barangay Captain Renato Narag, alongside with other barangay officials. The MOA formalized the partnership and reaffirmed the shared commitment of the College and the community to advancing extension initiatives, promoting scientific knowledge, and strengthening disaster preparedness, environmental stewardship, and community resilience.

Participants attended a series of informative seminars, hands-on workshops, and featured distinguished resource speakers, including Ms. Vanet L. Viloria, CSR–Safety Services Professional and Programmer at Cagayan State University; Sir Leonardo T. Manuel, Safety Officer of the Philippine Red Cross, who conducted demonstrations on First Aid and CPR; Mr. Jayson G. Indong, who discussed disaster preparedness; Mr. Ivan Brix C. Adducul, who delivered a session on Occupational Health and Safety; Prof. Rommel L. Culili, who facilitated the Water Analysis session; and Prof. Yvonne Grace Besinga Escobar, RCh, who served as the distinguished guest speaker for the Soil Analysis session.

Your expertise, dedication, and commitment to community service helped the people of Barangay Linao Norte gain essential knowledge and skills in disaster preparedness and environmental stewardship.

More than just a seminar, the activity empowered the community by transforming scientific knowledge into practical tools for disaster preparedness and resilience. Through collaborative learning and community engagement, the participants are now better equipped to respond to emergencies and mitigate the impacts of natural hazards.

The Asian Undergraduate Symposium (AUS) 2026 is an international academic platform that gathers undergraduate students from across Asia to engage in discussions, knowledge exchange, and collaborative learning.

This year’s theme, “Sustainability & Innovation: Communities in Action, Heritage & Culture, Inclusivity & Resilience,” highlights the importance of creating innovative and sustainable solutions while valuing cultural heritage, promoting inclusivity, and strengthening resilience in communities.
