As our Komyu Recognition Day drew to a close, our katutubos and boluntirs danced taripi togetherโ€”a traditional Aeta dance inspired by animals and the natural world.

After the certificates, medals, and recognition, what remained was what mattered most: a community celebrating, learning, and growing together. ๐Ÿ’š

We missed you for quite a long time already at the community. But we know that wherever you are today, it is where your heart beats cheerfully.

Looking forward to having you back again at the komyu! Our Aeta bulilits have always been missing you. We hope that wherever you go, the lessons and memories you have from the community stay with you.

Happy birthday again!

June 12, 2026

Yesterday, we honor the struggle started by the Filipino masses before us to achieve liberation from foreign colonizers.

But with the continued displacement and exploitation of the indigenous peoples, the plunder of the environment for profit, and the widespread inequality still experienced by the majority of the Filipino people, this day calls not for celebrationโ€”but for continuation.

And so on this day, we vow to continue the struggle until genuine is truly achieved.

Behind every medal is a story. A story of showing up, persevering, learning, and growing.

For many of our Aeta bulilits, being called to the stage has not always been a positive experience, as they have sometimes been discriminated or ridiculed during school ceremonies simply for being indigenous.

That is why our Komyu Recognition Day meant so much to them. As each child stepped onto the makeshift stage and heard their name called, we watched their faces light up with joy and pride. Despite the rain forcing us to move to a smaller venue, nothing could take away that moment. ๐Ÿ’š

Through special awards such as Batang Masigasig, Batang Mapagpasalamat, Batang Maasahan, Batang Makulit pero Malupit, and Batang Umuunlad, we celebrated the unique strengths, gifts, and growth of our indigenous children. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ…

Congratulations, bulilits! We celebrate you today, and we will continue working toward a future where you are celebrated every day. โœŠ๏ธ

These medals and certificates carry a meaning far beyond recognition.

We honor the courage it took to become students again, and the determination to keep learning despite years of hardship, discrimination, and oppression. We honor the belief that indigenous people deserve the right to learn, to be heard, and to live with dignity.

We celebrate not only what our learners have accomplished, but who they areโ€”resilient individuals whose lives reflect strength, perseverance, and resistance.

These medals and certificates are symbols of heartwork, resilience, and the unwavering spirit to keep moving forward.

Their journey reminds us that education is more than learning to read and write. It is about reclaiming dignity, knowing one's rights, strengthening communities, and ensuring that no one is left behind.

We are deeply honored to learn alongside you, and to struggle with you. We celebrate your achievement and the courage that made it possible.

Before the recognition proper began in the afternoon, our boluntirs and bulilits spent the morning preparing for the celebration.

Together, they decorated the multipurpose hall and the learning center, organized the tokens and uniforms for our learners, and cooked sarsiadong itlog for our solidarity lunch. Every task, big or small, was done collectively.

The rain may have forced us to let go of some of our original plans, but it did not dampen the spirit of the day. Instead, everyone adapted, helped where they could, and made the most of what was possible. ๐Ÿ’š

Some knowledge stays forever. And for our Aeta learners, education becomes dignity they carry wherever life takes them.

Natapos man ang Mikakamiha ngunit hindi matatapos ang pagkakaisa at pagkaka-ugnay. Tara na sa komyu!
