NAIA-IADITG ARRESTS LIBERIAN NATIONAL, OVER P55-M SHABU SEIZED

A 34-year-old Liberian national was arrested by authorities in a successful anti-Illegal drugs operation conducted by the NAIA-Inter Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Monday, June 5, 2023.

In coordination with the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) led by Director PBGEN Faro Antonio O Olaguera, the Task Group executed an interdiction operation resulting in the arrest of Philip C Campbell, a Liberian national, on suspicion of drug trafficking. Mr. Campbell, a mechanical engineer, was an arriving passenger via Qatar Airways Flight QR 934 from Doha, Qatar, with a prior transit from Lagos, Nigeria via Qatar Airways Flight QR 1406. His passport bears the number PP0074420.

During the operation, law enforcement officials confiscated significant pieces of evidence from Mr. Campbell. These include two checked-in baggage containing fifteen improvised pouches, which contained approximately 8,138 grams of white crystalline substance suspected to be Methamphetamine Hydrochloride (commonly known as shabu).

The estimated Standard Drug Price (SDP) of the seized substance is PhP55,338,400.00. Furthermore, the authorities also secured one Liberian passport, two boarding passes, one customs baggage declaration form, and one cellular phone.

Commending the efforts of the NAIA-IADITG, PNP Chief, Police General Benjamin C Acorda Jr said, "This successful drug interdiction operation at NAIA demonstrates the PNP's relentless pursuit of eradicating illegal drugs from our communities. I commend the dedication and coordination of the NAIA-Interagency Drug Interdiction Task Group, under the leadership of PDEG Director PBGEN Faro Antonio O Olaguera, for their exceptional performance in apprehending a suspected drug trafficker."

Following established protocols, the arrested suspect and the confiscated pieces of evidence have been placed under the custody of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). The PDEA will handle the necessary documentation and ensure the proper disposition of the case.

The PNP continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to illegal drugs to the authorities.

"This accomplishment is a testament to our commitment to preserving the safety and security of our citizens. We will continue to intensify our efforts to combat illegal drugs and protect the well-being of the Filipino people.", Acorda added.
